John Raynor, A Comfortable Death: In The Land Of F

John Raynor, A Comfortable Death: In the land of Ferdinand Marcos, you quickly learn to be tough. For Lisa Tiguelo, born on the day of his inauguration, it will be doubly so.

This is her story.

Lisa, born the eighth child of a family struggling on the Philippine breadline, faces a momentous task to survive as she discovers soon into her young life. With a dominant, ruthless and deceptive father fading to become a weak shell of what he once was, she must take control for her family's sake and those around her.

Both blessed and cursed with beauty and intelligence, she knows from an early age, she must meet the future head on.

The true, familial love of her life, her grandfather, when dying, draws her close and makes one last request of his beloved granddaughter. Lisa knows she will undertake his wishes, but knows not how many twists and turns of fate will enable her to, for the sake of her family and for herself. Born a devout Catholic, she has many conflicts between her faith and obligations to her Grandfather.

Fearless and brave, she is very soon an active part of the peoples fight against the tyrannical Marcos, fighting alongside her friends and family as part of the NPA [new peoples army], but her family must move away from the troubles, before they become victims, themselves.

This is an inspirational story of human bravery against a tyrannical regime and a story of how honour within that family asks the extraordinary from one woman in particular and how a curious twist of fate gives her the opportunity to fulfil her grandfather's wishes.

Inspired by the story of his own wife's life, John Raynor takes us on a whirlwind story of courage, hope and inspiration within a people and a time when all seemed lost.
