Tom Clancy, The Sum of All Fears

The Sum of All Fears, written by Tom Clancy, is a gripping read and is a book that all thriller fans should try and get their hands on. If you have seen the film starring Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck then don't be put off because as is often the case, there is much more to the book than the film adaptation suggests.

Central to the plot is CIA man Jack Ryan, it's his job to try and stop going off in America after the bomb has fallen into enemy hands. However when the President won't act upon Ryan's information, the bomb goes off in an American football stadium to devastating consequences. With international warfare on the horizon, only Ryan can save the day, bur you'll have to read the book to find out if he can stop World War 3 breaking out!

The writing from Clancy is superb throughout and the characters are not only compelling but also believable, and with Ryan, he has a hero that you actually want to support. The book cranks up the tension in the right places and as ever the writing is superb. A thoroughly exceptional read.
