DO NOT GO HERE.
Dreadful place. Built on a hillside and some parts are unscalable with a buggy or a wheelchair - just too steep.
Very few animals here - majority of cages are empty - overgrown and no evidence of animal activity or previous feedings.
Expensive to get in and a cheek to ask another £5 per person for a safari trip - although this is probably the only way you will get to see any animals!!
Glad we took our own food as their's was expensive and didn't look great. Plenty of places to picnic (on grass if weather good).
Definitely not a place to go with small children or older people or those with disabilities.

The Zoo Seems Set Out Not For The Public But For T
The zoo seems set out not for the public but for the marketing of the extra see the animals truck safari (£5.00 per person extra) and for the benefit of staff and animals. We spent over 4 hours trudging past empty paddocks and enclosures seeing animals in only a tiny proportion.
Site maps are scarce, paths mainly only pot holed gravel tracks (beware if your taking a push chair).
Staff were plentiful and friendly, they seemed to know every animals name and life story (there's so few of them). Not many picnic sites (one of the 3 we found was unusable covered in green moss as sited in damp corner under trees near gorilla cage) or toilets.
Would recommend saving up to visit a better thought out and populated zoo (Colchester for example you would see more animals in ten minutes then in 4 hours here).
I found this review very helpful because... it is totally true - we visited in August 2010 and it is exactly like this.
