Fantastic Day Out. High Ropes Course Situated In

Fantastic day out. High ropes course situated in the middle of Thetford Forest. There are several routes, the first is a training course which starts very close to the ground and progresses, giving you a taste of some of the obstacles which are going to follow, such as a Tarzan net, some general tight rope type obstacles and a zip line. Also in the very first zone is an obstacle with a zip line on the end where the safety briefing is conducted by a trained instructor. The safety briefing lasts around half an hour and is done with a group of about 20 people (obviously depending on how many have booked in). You are then left to do the following zones on your own, after you have been shown how to attach yourself to all the equipment.

Thetford Forest have a policy where you must be at least 10 years old, minimum height of 1.4m (4ft7) and maximum weight of 20 stone (130kg). Anyone who is under 18 years old must be accompanied by a participating adult. One adult can supervise up to 5 under 18s, however no more than 2 of them can be under 16.

The further you progress around the zones the more difficult the obstacles become. As you get to the 4th zone there are 2 different courses you can take, there is another Tarzan swing onto a net, marked as a black route (the hardest) and there is another route which is marked as a blue route (one of the easiest), so it is up to the individual which route they wish to take, however if an adult is supervising children they must take whichever route the children take to ensure the harnesses are fitted to the safety equipment correctly.

Before going to Go Ape in Thetford Forest I was terrified of heights but decided as my sister and her friends wanted a day out that I would be their accompanying adult. When I found out that I had to take the same route as them I was terrified, especially seen as on the first course I was so scared and wasn't sure I wanted to continue to the rest of the courses. However, once I had got onto the third course I wasn't quite so scared although the adrenaline rush was still there. By the end of all the courses my fear of heights had been cured (I finally realised that the harness was safe and there was no way I was going to fall as long as I fitted it correctly) and I wanted to go again.

Fantastic day, especially if you are scared of heights, great way to cure it. Took us 3 hours to get around the course, and although I started slow on the first course because of the fear, we soon sped up. The time it takes to get around the course can vary greatly depending on the amount of people there. The company say the average is 3 hours, but recommend that if you want to get round it in the fastest time possible to test yourself that you should go in the early morning, because if you go during the day as we did you can easily get stuck behind people. As there is only 3 people allowed at each platform (in between each obstacle) and only 1 person allowed on each obstacle at a time it is quite easy to get stuck behind people and have to wait a few minutes for them to continue.

The best parts of the course were the second Tarzan net swing in the 4th zone and the 140m zip wire at the end of the last zone.

Very good value for money at £15 for under 18s and £20 for 18 and over. Would definitely recommend it to people of any age.
