Visiting The National Gallery Of Art In Washington

Visiting the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. is free and easy. It offers free admission and is on the Mall in the heart of the monument and museum district in Washington, D.C.

Just inside each entrance of the West Building is an information desk with free single-page guides for a quick visit. The "Less than an hour?" guide has twelve must-see paintings with a thumbnail view of the works and a map showing their locations. "The Great Picture Hunt" has thumbnail views of 16 works of interest for children to find. These guides help make the Gallery accessible for all ages and the quick visit suggestions allow you to see high profile works without wandering. Taking to long ruins the visit for the casual visitor.

For a quick outside break, visit the National Gallery of Art's sculpture garden. In summer the large pool and fountain is perfect for taking off the shoes and refreshing tired feet. In winter grab a hot chocolate or coffee and watch the skater circle the frozen ice rink in the fountain's place.
