Birmingham Jewellery Quarter Museum

We trudged around in the snow looking for the museum of the jewellery quarter in Birmingham and when we found it - we were a bit disappointed as it looked more like a small shop. However, the actual museum entrance is at the back, there's a shop at the front selling jewellery and a small exhibition and cafe (very reasonable tea & coffee, sandwiches, cake etc.) to the right as you go in. Nearly got put off by the grumpy woman at the till who must of been having a bad day, but glad we went ahead. The museum has 2 galleries for you to look at while waiting for the guided tour to start; its completely free of charge, and takes 1 hour. It was fascinating, and the guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and informative and kept you interested at all times. It's not really suitable for young children and not sure it would keep all older children entertained either (depends on what they are interested in!) and once you start the tour you cant really go back to the galleries until its finished. I wouldn't say its suitable for disabled people due to the layout, but its worth asking - its run by Birmingham City Council.
