We Had Been Looking Forward To Visiting Chatsworth

We had been looking forward to visiting Chatsworth House for a long time as we had previously been members of the National Trust and had enjoyed visiting many stately homes.Quite simply this is not a home but would be better described as a museum.Lots of art and sculptures, but no atmosphere, all very clinical.

The ceiling paintings were very beautiful, however, none of the rooms are particularly memorable in their own right. All the rooms seem to come together and create one long museum. As we were able to find promo codes on the internet we can rate the value for money as two stars. If we had paid full price we would have been sorely disappointed with what was on offer today.

After Living In Derbyshire For Several Years, I Fe

After living in Derbyshire for several years, i felt that it was important to visit this magnificent statley home. On family arriving from Canada we decided that now was the best time.

I was astounded to find that the full family ticket was a staggering £48.00, which i deem as extortionate!!!! Sadly i believe the cost of the ticket tinged how i felt about the whole day as i do not believe that Chatsworth is in any way shape or form 'value for money'.

The house was very nice, but the rooms that were avalible to see were limited, given the size of the property. The archetecture was beautiful and i can not fault the wow factor in the amount of the house that we did see. The farm was just average and although the play area is vast and the gardens were beautiful, i still believe that £48.00 was far to expensive for a family and then to top it off they wanted to charge an extra £3.50 for this and £4.00 for that, for attractions such as buggy and tractor rides, tour guides and audio guides, which in my opinion is beyond a joke. I would steer clear unless you have money to burn!!! on a positive note, the icecream is pretty reasonably priced!!

House Wasn't Fully Open, Probably Only Half Of The

House wasn't fully open, probably only half of the rooms. Couldn't see anything on their web-site to tell us this. Really unhappy having seen half of the house and then ending up in the gift shop. A massive disappointment. Also, how do a family get in for 16.50 (previous review)?

Derbyshire, Chatsworth House Is Fantastic. House-

Derbyshire, Chatsworth House is Fantastic.

House-More of a museum piece than a house the grandness of it is wonderful with beautiful ceilings and an awesome gem collection. A little busy but that does not spoil it and it is one of the finest pieces of architecture ANYWHERE.

Gardens-Amazing. Brilliant. What more can I say? With the fun maze, gorgeous borders as well as some excellent statues, a fantastic view to the house and the amazing mining tunnel which you can walk through these are the highlights.

Farm-The farm is a little pricey but all the animals are well kept and the adventure playground is awesome!!!

Overall, Chatsworth is excellent and well worth a visit.

I Took My Family To Chatsworth After Driving Throu

I took my family to Chatsworth after driving through the park the previous week. They'd spotted the Emperor fountain and just kept nagging to go and have a look. So, we paid to go into the Gardens, £16.50 for a family plus £2 to park, and I have to say, after two weeks of school holidays and visits to all sorts of places, including the National Space Centre, I thought it was really good value for money. The fact that this was probably the hottest April day ever, just added to our enjoyment.

We all played in the water cascading 200 metres down the stone steps cut into the hillside 300 years ago. The kids loved the maze, I've never heard them laugh so much. Joseph Paxton and Capability Brown are just two famous landscapers who have added features to the garden over the last 450 years.

Next to the entrance to the formal gardens is the old stable block. Arranged around a central fountain are a cafe, two restaurants, a bar, take-away and various shops, although when we left at about 5.30pm, the eateries had closed.

If you want to try Chatsworth Park without paying to get into the formal gardens, there is a car park on the main road through the park that charges £2. From there, it's a pleasant walk, with only one road to cross, to the river. There's a weir on the river where all the kids love to play when its hot and with sheep and deer wandering about it makes for a great and cheap day out.

We will be back just as soon as we can!

Set In The Rolling Hills Of Derbyshire Next To The

Set in the rolling hills of Derbyshire next to the river Derwent, this fine stately home, which is still lived in my the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, was voted best loved stately home in the UK by readers of the Radio Times magazine and Channel 5.

Chatsworth House is lavish, with many great works of art and contains a wonderful sculpture gallery and chapel. This is set in one of the most beautiful and interesting landscaped gardens and over 1000 acres of parkland.
