Can't Say That I Am A Serious Av Nut, But I Can Te

Can't say that I am a serious AV nut, but I can tell you I have been impressed with the JVC AV28R25EKS Widescreen TV for 2 Years now. The sound is excellent, with the Woofer mounted on the back doing an excellent job, and balancing the speakers couldn't be easier. 3 Scarts are essential for modern AV, and this has them. Also, the RGB input for the Gaming machine has been tucked down the side out of view, yet is accessible (and not behind one of those awful flaps which the kids break). The tuner seems to be sensitive, but it cleared up some of the poor signals I had on my aged old set anyway. I paid £600 for it so VFM Down. If you can get it for £400 then recommended.

Well My Jvc Av28r25ek Replaced My Ageing Toshiba 2

Well My JVC AV28R25EK replaced my ageing Toshiba 2539DB 4.3 "Dolby Pro Logic Tv just over eighteen months ago.

I can honestly say that I was pleased with the pictures produced by this set, once I had adjusted the menu settings.

There is a slight picture tilt along the bottom right of the screen, but not too discerning as to spoil my viewing pleasure.

As for audio reproduction, very good, apart from the tiny rear speakers supplied.

The rear mounted sub-woofer unit tends to vibrate quite a bit, depending on bass levels used in programme content being broadcast, even at low volume levels.

I have read all the previous reviews regarding the JVC AV28R25EKS, and agree with other's that yes there are varying degrees of picture tilt.

However I must stress that if you closely examine other widescreen Tv's from leading manufacturer's on display in electric retailers, there are a varying level of tilt evident on these sets also.

Finally you can't have everything in life, but for the money I personally think the JVC is great value, especially as it has "Dolby Pro-Logic" thrown in for just over £400.00

The First Thing You May Notice About The Jvc Av28r

The first thing you may notice about the JVC AV28R25EKS during setup is the lack of picture tilt correction. For some odd reason this Pro Logic set lacks this basic function which seems to be a major oversight: magnetic tilt which actually presents as noticeable distortion on the top and bottom of the screen may or may not affect you depending on where you live.

Setup is easy and the instruction manual is easy to follow although the generic coverage may lead you to look for basic features - such as picture tilt - that aren't present.

The picture quality is very good for a £420 set - colours are appropriately bright and vivid and via RGB there is an impressive sharpness. S-Video seems to give the best colour quality. The set has no composite input. There is a noise reduction function and the set also features a "normal", "warm" and "cool" picture setting designed to tint the picture with a particular mood. It's quite interesting to play with.

Fastext keys allow short cut access to picture and sound format functions.

The widescreen modes are confusing: the 16:9 and 14:9 modes are panning modes which cut off the top and bottom of most widescreen digital broadcasts. The "Panoramic" and "Full" modes are more useful for widescreen viewing (16:9 and 2.35:1). With black borders though the picture tilt problem may become noticeable enough to be distracting although most family members won't notice it and will think you're nutty for mentioning it.

Sound quality is very good for a £420 set and this is probably the real reason for buying the set - for £420 I can't see that it's currently possible to buy better. The bass is good if a little thin at lower volumes for my liking - the 40W subwoofer quality does improve at higher volumes but noise nuisance may prohibit this! Still, the amplifier is able to kick out a fair amount of power - 2 x 25W(front), 15W(centre) and 40W subwoofer. If you don't want to use a seperate Pro Logic unit then you won't get much better than this - almost certainly not for the money. The Surround Sound is very good but the standard package doesn't come with speakers so make sure that you buy the correctly rated speakers or you will be disappointed.

The simulated Surround Sound mode is very effective but it doesn't effectively simulate Surround Sound - it does give the sound impressive body but you won't be looking over your shoulders.

Overall the set has at least 1 serious and odd shortcoming: lack of picture tilt. However if you're buying on a budget or if you want a 2nd set and you can live with the lack of tilt correction then you won't be able to do better for the money: the picture quality itself is actually good and the sound quality is very good (the Surround Sound is as good as that on some £1000 plus sets). At £420 you can't go wrong.

Whoops, I made a mistake in this review: I meant to say that the TV has no "component" input and instead I wrote that it has no "composite" input which is of course untrue. Apologies.

Have A Problem Describing This Jvc Av28r25eks Tv.

Have a problem describing this JVC AV28R25EKS tv. When we bought this set it was after being very disappointed with a new Phillips 32"6506, the result was that at first it seemed that it was the business and I (forever) looking for a fault was blinded by science and the advertising which made the TV appear untouchable by other makes. Yep, I noticed a fault right away but wouldn't take it in till later. The tv's brightness level was to low. The contrast wasn't enough. The rest of the tv was great and the picture according to everyone else but not me was fine. I put up with it for a couple of months-then I had a mad snap, found a website which had info on this problem and altered the settings via the remote. Result? Yes in this case I am now happy with the tv picture having adjusted the levels in the service menu up to the correct ammounts. I know it might be me thats wrong here and it was 4 against 1 family wise but the tv had a slightly gloomy look to me and no-ones complained since. The instructions are hard work for this tv and any scart(3off)that I use for dvd does oddities to the picture width which can be altered etc, at this point I gave up and ran into culture shock. I'm only human and I can't control everything. To end this ; it's a nice well made flatscreen tv, dear at £599 when we bought it and the picture is between ok to very good for 4/5 of my family with very good sound. As a final matter of interest helped my mum to pick a new 28" widescreen Pacific from Asda at £200.00 early Dec 03 and the picture seems to me to be great, plenty of colour and brightness but does need setting on "full" on the screen settings setup. If I had to buy again I would get this in the 32" version and send it back if it wasn't right.

Went into service menu not ordinary menu as have stated, the TV was poorly setup and it's a normal job for engineers and anyone with vision.

itshimthere

This is ridiculous commenting on the factory setting of the contrast/brightness of the TV. Every single product I buy I have immediately altered one or more of the settings to suit my own taste. I cant believe they had never used a menu before. Dont let this put you off in the slightest, this is an excellent TV for the money.

Before Buying This Jvc Av28r25eks Television I Rea

Before buying this JVC AV28R25EKS television I read a number of "professional" reviews, all of which sang the praises of this TV.

I bought it before Christmas. Set it up and the first thing that struck me was the excellent sound. The separate sub woofer really adds to the 3D effect of the sound.

The picture was very good too. Vivid colours with plenty of options to change to your preference.

Unfortunately the picture had a very noticeable tilt to it. When I mentioned this to the retailer he arranged for an immediate replacement from JVC. Great service....yes, but the replacement also has tilt, although not as bad as the original. According to JVC, the amount of tilt on the replacement set is within specification and they are not willing to put it right.

Since then I've found a number of consumer reviews complaining of this same problem, mainly with this model, but also with other JVC sets. It seems that the 32" set has a tilt control.

If you are going to buy a JVC TV I would suggest that you make sure the model has tilt control, otherwise I would stay well clear.

Rating this set is difficult. Without the tilt problem I would have said 9 for value for money and 8 overall, as it is I'm struggling to give it more than 5 for each category.

After My Kids Scratched The Tube On My Jvc Av28fr1

After my kids scratched the tube on my JVC AV28FR100EKS my insurance company replaced it with a new shiny JVC AV28R25EKS.The first tv i recieved i sent back because of the picture was tilted quite badly(i could adjust this with my old tv but not the replacement model!!!!)Wierd. So my new television is a lot better but still not perfect, but any way apart from that this tv is a cracker.2x10 watt front 1x10 watt centre and a 18 watt sub woofer which rocks. There is 3 scarts and speaker terminals for optional surround speakers which i still had from my old tv and i would recommend you purchase them for full dolby pro-logic sound.Overall this tv is excellent and performs well with dvd and sky digital i would have rated this 10/10 but i am still not too happy with the picture tilt.Does any one else have this problem?

I've recently bought a AV32R25EKS & it has tilt adjustment built in.

The instructions state "the Earths own magnetic field may make the picture tilt" but mines perfectly straight & the tv is great in every aspect.

johnnysaint

I've had exactly the same problem with this TV. The first one I had displayed a very noticeable tilt. I bought it online and when I described the problem they arranged a replacement from JVC, no questions asked. I got the distinct impression that this was not the first complaint the retailer had received.

The replacement set was better, but there is still tilt on the picture. The retailer said that tilt of 5 mm was acceptable within the industry and JVC would not accept there was a problem if the tilt was less than that.

It's a real pitty as the picture is very good and the sound is excellent.

Bertie69

Fair enough,I suppose I'm just jealous that youv'e got A JVC that works.

I have had one or two TVs over the years and they have lasted quite a few years.

This is the first time I have bought JVC and my experience has not been a good one(see JVC REVIEWS ON THIS SITE).

As I write I am waiting for my 3rd replacement tv in 4 months,(4th in 22 months)the last one blew up.

It is difficult to do a review because I must admit when my TVs were working I would have given them 10/10 but value for money has to be 0/10

dougie

Well bertie69 the reason i still gave it 9 out of ten is the television excells in every other department ie sound looks picture performance.I was not going to rate it just 5 or 6 out of ten because of a SLIGHT picture tilt and it is a vast improvement over the previous tv i was sent out.The tv i have may well be faulty or it might be that all of these jvc televisions are the same, that is what i am trying to find out!!!!.Also if my previous tv had not been tilted so bad i probably would not notice the very slight picture tilt on my new one!!!!!.

Bertie69

A bit suprised you are giving this TV a nine when the main part of a TV is the picture and yours has a tilt!
