ONN SW8411HDR

I had to take mine back,,after almost 6 months.the remote died...i tried to get a replacement,but there is no tech support in Australia.

the machine,itself,is wonderful.

here is the funny part.....$149.00 AUD a total bargain!

Very simple to use. I can't fault it at all in fact trying to find another for guest bedroom,no luck so far.

Full featured. Looks good and is cheap for me. Could be a very good machine with a small amount of reworking. Bought it from ASDA and they were great. I explained I found the noise unacceptable and they took it back no problem. The fan was very noisy and unacceptable for me. This noise only stops when switched off. Not user friendly with a poor manual in my opinion, therefore I do not recommend the ONN SW8411HDR.

ONN SW8411HDR Hard drive recorder review. Manual is incomprehensible and the type so small on the setup plan that its illegible. Even after 3 phone calls lasting a total of 1.5 hours its still not working properly. Can't get it to stay on Scart connection or work with my excellent Sony TV.

Asda's tech support has been good but they can't seem to help me with the set up to make this DVD work so I'll be taking back at the earliest opportunity. Will have to spend more money but its worth it not to go through this sort of hassle.

Excellent value for money product, easy to install and the multiple record quality settings are great. The instruction book is a little difficult to follow in some parts but overall covers the essential operations. Once you have finalised a DVD +R disc, you are not able to copy any of its titles back onto the HDD, (which are can do before the disc is finalised).

The cooling fan noise is quite loud is quite enjoying.

The selection of titles to dub from HDD to DVD can be annoying as the recorder does not like it if you select a title to dub and then change your mind and remove it. (it can cause the DVD disc to record incorrectly or lock up the system completely)

The hdd spins upto late and can miss the first 30 secs of a program when on timer, but if its essential you can edit the timers to start recording early. I don't as of yet have a digital aerial, but i will fit one in the spring just to get all the extra digi channels.

I've had the ONN SW8411HDR for a few months now and can't fault it.

Bought this from ASDA, after a really bad experience with another purchase (See Sony RDR GX120 review). Onn... the face of it, a good buy - HDD and DVD for under £120. But after plugging it in and waiting for the noise to stop, decided the noise must be from the Hard Drive, which, I assumed, would be constantly rotating, in order to provide the Time shift facility. Looked through all the menus - no option to stop the Hard Drive. Listened a little more closely and realised it was the cooling fan. So - turned the machine off, intending to just use it when I wanted to record. The screen went dead - no through connection for SCART In - Out, whilst the machine is off. Which, together with the above, made it just about unusable. Rang ASDA, and to their credit, once again, said "Just bring it back for a full refund - no problem" I did, and as they promised, refunded the money cheerfully. Cant recommend the DVD recorder, but cant fault ASDA.
