Freeview Tuner No Longer Works In The Uk
Since the latest Freeview updates, the Slingbox internal Freeview unit of the PRO and PRO-HD boxes will not let you scan channels in the UK in most if not all regions.
This is a hardware/firmware fault. Sling Media who produce the product seem to be ignoring customers who are asking for them to update the firmware to cure this.
If you are in the UK and are contemplating buying any Slingbox then bear in mind you will NOT be able to use the internal Freeview Tuner unless or until Sling Media correct the fault.
After almost two years, numerous complaints by customers, and extensive postings on Sling's own forum (which they have never 'acknowledged or contributed to', this Freeview matter is unresolved.
Please be aware, or make yourself aware by reading about it on
their Forum, that the Company cannot be relied upon to provide
customer support on this key issue, and as they have ignored it re.
the Sling PRO and PRO-HD boxes, they are unlikely to do so for any
of their current or new products.
I have been banned from the Sling Forum, because I posted about the matter below.
The Company announced that they will not be providing a fix re the Freeview issue for the CLASSIC and PRO models. as they are 'legacy' products and no longer supported, but are trying to fix it on the PO-HD.
If they have found a way of correcting the Freeview Tuner on the PRO-HD is is almost certain the other models can be fixed too.
When Sling was first made aware of the problem over 2 years ago both models were still current and being sold. The problem was totally ignored by them until I and a few others were forced to publish the facts elsewhere on the Web and notify Retailers.
The problem started when the models were current, and it is inexcusable for the Company to refuse to issue new firmware to fix it, as they at last are promising re. the PRO-HD.
If you have a Sling Account please broadcast the above in the Forum, and it would be appreciated if you could also mention I have been banned from posting there. I have probably been the most active in forcing the Company to acknowledge the fault, on behalf of existing and future customers, please help me now.

I Have Just Bought A Sling Media Sling Box Pro And
I have just bought a Sling Media Sling Box Pro and it was a dream from the 1st second I opened the box. To start with everything you needed was in the box. All of the cables including a network lead, a power supply and a very brief install manual. Usually when I see an instruction pamphlet I tend to panic but it turned out it was all you needed. I hooked up my TV, network lead and sat box as described and switched on the box. It then took me a good few seconds to realise I had to download the software from the web. Once I had installed the software it started up detected my box (yep not setup of network addresses or any thing like that) and asked if I wanted to configure it. The config was simple and I was watching TV on my laptop in about an hour from opening the box. I spent the weekend away and I can confirm that the system works on WiFi and 3G just fine. If you get a ropey connection the box automatically adjust to a resolution which your bandwidth can cope with. Overall an excellent product
