Elgato Offer A Range Of Products To Bring Pvr Func
Elgato offer a range of products to bring PVR functionality to the Mac, covering both digital terrestrial and satellite, and their software (EyeTV) also provides support for hardware from a number of third party vendors (Haupage, Terratec, etc.) so whatever your requirements there's nound to be something to fit.
The software is fairly straightforward to use and mostly trouble-free, although the support for the standard Apple remote is limited and the interface has some interesting quirks; it's not quite as seamless an experience as Media Center and might be a bit fiddly to serve as your primary TV, but if you don't mind shelling out for a third-party remote or have a wireless keyboard and mouse it's not too bad.
Scheduling recordings is a simple matter of picking them from the TV guide (which can get its information either from the TVTV service or from over-the-air EPG data), and the usual range of pause/rewind live TV functions are present. Options to automatically export recordings to DVD, iPod, Apple TV, and a variety of other formats is a nice touch; some better integration with FrontRow would be nice (as it stands, without adding third-party plugins the only way to get at recordings via FR is to export them to iTunes), but other than that it's well-featured and feels like a native Mac application.
Overall an excellent product: its shortcomings are mostly superficial, and it does what it does with verve and aplomb!
