I Started With Dvd's With A Pioneer 717, Which Was
I started with DVD's with a Pioneer 717, which was universally praised for it's audio playback, although its picture playback fell behind the opposition quite quickly. But, enjoying music I was loathe to replace it until I could find something that could equal or beat it. I tried Toshiba, Arcam, Pioneers and other Sony units, but, they all had something I couldn't get along with. So I continued to look (many thanks to our long suffering Richer Sounds outlet in Croydon).
Eventually, they suggested I try this unit. Having been unimpressed by £1000+ units I didn't expect much from a £400 box.
Boy was I suprised.
I bought a SACD disc of 'Bruce Sprigstien - Live in New York' to try with it, attached to a similar amp/speaker set up to my own. What an experience, if you closed your eyes and held a stale beer under your nose you could have been there. It was well defined, accurately placed, but, richly toned. I was impressed, very impressed!
I followed this with a Superbit 'Fifth Element' DVD, superb pictures with no noticable flaws in high (or low) contrast areas, and again quality sound, accurately placed and crisp.
Combined with a Yamaha A1 amp and AE speakers you will find it difficult to beat the quality for 3 times the price.
Very highly recommended (only doesn't get a 10 for Overall rating because of the weird remote and flimsy tray - all else is solid 10 territory ).
i will agree with u on the sony900 being a great machine, but the part about the tray being flimsy is utter crud. i've never seen a better tray and the remote is brill.
