Wish I'd Read The Philips Dvd-r890 Reviews First.

Wish i'd read the Philips DVD-R890 reviews first. My experience is as the other reviews - erasing stuff we didn't want erasing, making discs unplayable & undeletable & unrecordable.

Just Read All The Other Reviews - Mine Is As Bad O

Just read all the other reviews - mine is as bad or even worse. Philips should be prosecuted - if it were a car it would be withdrawn from the market! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!

Bought My Philips Dvd-r890 Xmas 2002. Worked Fine

Bought my Philips DVD-R890 Xmas 2002. Worked fine for 2months while using DVD+RW discs. Then tried to play a pre recorded disc unsuccessfully. I complained to the online retailer. They arranged collection and sent it back to Phillips in Holland. 2 weeks later it was back and worked fine - for another few months. Then it developed the same fault again. I wanted a replacement now, but was told this wasn't possible. Again it went back to Holland.

It developed the same fault again last January.

I am going to attempt to get some form of redress if possible {The machine cost me £460 in 2004} and is now useless for recording.

Don't Even Think About Buying This Product. Mine W

Don't even think about buying this product. Mine worked Ok for a few months, with little use, then simply trashed almost every disk I put into it. In some cases I lost programmes that had already been recorded onto the disc. Eventually, nothing worked. Philips didn't want to know and Debenhams, where I bought it, had ceased selling this type of electrical equipment. No surprise there then. I bought a LiteOn for £149, which works superbly - so far!!

Philips Dvd R890 - Dont Buy This Product. If Phil

Philips DVD R890 - DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT. If Philips had some integrity they would do a recall. This product works well for a few months but then starts acting up in various ways. Read reviews from this and other sites to get an idea of the many ways this machine can fail to work. In the case of my machine, after a few months it said 'No disc' whenever a disk was inserted. After repairs, it worked well for another 4-5 months and then the same problem returned. The fact that Philips refuses to do a recall on a clearly defective product should make us all think about the point of purchasing any Philips prodcut in the future.

The Philips Dvd R890 Impressed Me When I Bought It

The Philips DVD R890 impressed me when I bought it (excellent picture quality) but sadly that has all changed. When I try to record anthing, all works ok for 30 or so minutes then I get a red message bar with "Warning - Disc Fault" accompanied by a grinding noise. After several messages, the unit stops with a "Disc Error" message. I only hope Philips will take it back and fix it!

This Is An Indemic Fault With Both The Philips Dvd

This is an indemic fault with both the Philips DVD R890 and 880 that after 3 months usage the machine just writes bad info onto disc, it then cannot read it meaning the disc can now be thrown in bin. Unfortunately this can mean losing some treasured recordings.

Philips only answer is to keep dragging the machine back to the retailer for repair and offer no other support.

Allin all would advise anybody to steer clear of this machine and Philips products as whole.

This Worked Well For About 4 Months And Then Stopp

This worked well for about 4 months and then stopped recognising that there was a disk in the machine, initially on pre-recorded DVDs but then on ones I had done myself. We returned it to Empire who sent us a new one straight away, After 6 months this too is no longer reading discs and Empire are doing an unofficial recall although Phillips haven't had the decency to do so.

All in All rubbish

After 8 Months The Philips Dvd R890 Began To Funt

After 8 months the Philips DVD R890 began to funtion erratically - just on pre-recorded DVDs - it still worked fine on DVD+RW from TV. It has now got so bad that I've had to return it.
