I Have Had Several Denon Products Before And Have
I have had several Denon products before and have been very impressed with their quality, hence my decision to purchase the DVD-800. The unit operated perfectly for 15 months before displaying a H02 error. I took it back to place of purchase, and was told to take the unit to an authorised repairer. I was charged $40 for quotation which turned into $150 to replace the drive machanism. I was offered 3 months warranty on labour only.
Within a further 14 months I had the same problem occur. On researching the problem I find that the DVD-800 is basically a re-branded Panasonic player and the H02 error has been known about for some time. This is very poor form from a company I perceived to be a long term player in the high end A/V market.
I wouldn't purchase a Denon product again - I expect that most of their products are fine, but it is a gamble in my opinion.
Same problem in Germany (H02). Now I'm warned I won't order a repair and will throw the player away. I phoned DENON Germany and they say that they don't know of any problem and won't think of any kind of goodwill gesture. It is normal that a Denon DVD player may break down after 4 years and I should buy a new one.
Forget Denon!

I Bought The Denon Dvd800 Together With An Avr1602
I bought the Denon DVD800 together with an AVR1602 Receiver. Having read the specs on the internet, which stated mp3 compatibility, I went out and bought it. After having come home, it simply refused to play mp3's. When I phoned the distributer he explained that only the region 1 players have mp3 capability. I will have to send the player to the DENON distributer, who will remove the region limitor and I will be able to play mp3.
Minor drawback: it'll cost me $80......
Why, why, why? It's exactly the same machine. Why is the european software deliberately limited?
Anyway: take this into consideration when you're european!

I Bought The Dvd 800 Dvd Player By Denon Because I
I bought the DVD 800 DVD player by Denon because I'd heard about their reputation and this was the model in my price range. It is a great DVD player for the money-even though I probably paid a bit more because of the name. Overall I'm happy with the performance. It has a great picture, great audio, and all the features I will need. The only minor bad point is that it has limited audio outputs to choose from: doesn't affect me but others may want to check this out.
