I've Never Had The Problems With My Apex Ad-1500 A

I've never had the problems with my Apex AD-1500 as listed by the other reviewer. I've had mine for 10 years and it's still doing well. It's also made it through 7 moves without breaking.

If You Just Want A Basic Movie Player For Yourself

If you just want a basic movie player for yourself or a second player for the kids, then the Apex 1500 DVD player works well. The playback of DVDs sometimes shows some artifacts and the odd rental DVD freezes but nothing distracting. The playback quality compares fairly well to other basic players from LG, Zenith and others. The player looks odd with the big power button, frog green display. I like the retro black 80's look and feel it has so I don't count this as a negative. The Apex 1500 does rely on the remote far too much so hang on to it. You get a good DVD player in the Apex 1500 and one that does much more than others available in it's price class.

Well, It's Me Again. It Hasn't Even Been A Month S

Well, it's me again. It hasn't even been a month since my original review of the Apex AD-1500 DVD player and it's time to update. I still stand by my original thoughts on the cheapness of the unit and the fact that it plays everything; however, since then it has gotten worse. That "tacking sound" got worse, so I returned it for another unit. The second unit seemed better - no tacking sound - until 2 days ago I put in an SVCD and the image was shaking. It was blurry like the tv itself was vibrating really fast. I thought it might be my svcd so I put in an original-same thing. Then I noticed that when I pulled the disc out altogether, the generic "DVD" image was doing the same thing. Normal TV viewing was fine.

I took the unit back again, but this time for a refund. I think now that this unit is not worth buying under any circumstance. I would rather wait until I could scrounge up another $30 and buy something of much better quality. There are many players out there now that play all of the different media's - just do your research. vcdhelp.com is the greatest place to research players - check it out.

As for me - I have decided that a 5-disc changer would better suit my needs so I have just ordered a Pioneer DV-C503D from Wal-Mart online of all places. It seems that this model is no longer made and retailers no longer sell it. I could have found it cheaper at another online place, but wal-mart will let you return online purchases to there local retail stores within 90 days;-). Seeing as how I'm getting more and more picky, being able to return is a huge factor.

I'll let you know what I think of the Pioneer DV-C503D in a few weeks -

Until then - happy viewing

Overall, The Apex Ad-1500 Dvd Player Is Cheap. The

Overall, the Apex AD-1500 DVD player is cheap. There's no denying it. It looks cheap, it feels cheap, and it smells cheap; however, if you want to play all media's and regions and disable macrovision- all for some pocket change - it will work.

I love the DVD player, I got mine for $39.00, upgraded it for free. If I rent a movie and don't get a chance to watch it. I throw in a tape and make a quick copy and watch it in my spare time. Cheap yes, I love cheap.. Did I mention it works great
