Fantastic Camera At A Great Price - But Get The Vr Lense
Previously owning a Nikon D70 I decided to upgrade to the D5000 which is a smaller camera but better technology i.e. higher mega pixels and better quality sensor. The first thing I noticed was the nice build quality of the camera but still remaining light enough to be portable. I purchased the 55-300mm VR lense in addition to the standard 18-55mm lense it came with (also VR).
My step mum has the non VR version of the lense and there is a noticeable improvement in mine as it is slightly sharper in darker shots or with the telephoto lense.
I recommend shooting in raw not jpeg as the quality is stunning. Great camera!

Outstanding Camera, Gives Exellent Results, Previo
Outstanding camera, gives exellent results, previously had a Nikon D50 and this is a great upgrade.
Has all the features that you would have found on a pro digital SLR a few years ago.
A nice weight, not too heavy, but heavy enough to not feel cheap, have taken thousands of photos with this camera since I got it 6 months ago and the results always impress.
No longer available new, but if you can pick up a mint second hand one do so.
