Nikon D2X

The Nikon D2X is is in every sense a professional camera. It is by no means small or light, but its bulk is justified by its rugged build quality.

It is very difficult to express my satisfaction with this camera in a few words; it has an excellent image quality with frames that can be deeply cropped without losing detail; an ergonomic design that places controls where you expect to find them; hugely detailed menus with all the options you could possibly need. Long battery life - a boon after the D1X, and a fantastic frame rate of 8fps in high-speed crop mode.

This is a fantastic camera.

I've had my D2x for about 2 years or so now and throughout that time its been a faultless performer.

Love the battery life and the high frame rates (ok newer stuff gets faster) but one of the best things is the crop mode high speed setting. This gives an effective 2x lens length and also 8fps, and with the crop mode set I can see objects entering and leaving the viewfinder giving that fraction more time to react.

Built like a battleship and easy to use too.

I use it on occasion for wedding photography but this is its weak point. Trying to shoot low light wedding photography without flash means horrible grainy images.

Aside from that and the price tag when new though its near perfect.

Nikon D2X is a fantastic pro DSLR, with a better build quality than other brands top spec DSLR's. It has easy to use menu's with a full range of customisable functions. The high speed crop mode is a fantastic addition, meaning you only need the one DSLR to do several jobs (social one minute, photojournalism the next).

I'd always recommend this camera, however it must be remembered, pro DSLR's need to have the images edited by computer after capture, to get the best results. Only compacts can print straight.
