Minolta Dimage 7hi - Bear In Mind This Is A Recent
Minolta Dimage 7Hi - Bear in mind this is a recent purchase so I am not rating this after "years" of Minolta experience. As with any new camera, read the book from cover to cover first!!! In the case of this camera, toss that book in right next to your camera because you will have those "what should I do to get this effect?" moments. The memory card that came with mine holds a very modest amount at extra-fine quality so a back-up card is recommended. I would definitely recommend lots of extra batteries (it holds 4) and a charger nearby. If you photograph nature, make sure you remember to turn off all the sound effects or bye bye birdie. It is not the quietest of all the digitals I've played with. For the size it is not too heavy, it has a comfortable grip and the options are fairly handy to get to. I've had a Sony DSC P-50 (my first and easiest digital) for years but wanted more creative freedom and a higher quality. Overall I am very impressed with my new Minolta Dimage 7-Hi. Expect a few months before you really get the basic hang of it. Don't just read the manual (it has a few pages that make you say "huh?") play around with it too, a little trial and error never killed anyone, especially when you can delete the errors!

Begginers - Don't Buy This Minolta Dimage 7hi Digi
Begginers - don't buy this Minolta Dimage 7Hi Digital camera! Not only is it too expensive but it's loaded with various features you'll never use or find hard to cope with.
This camera is for serious amateurs (or light pros!) that will benefit from loads of very good camera features.
Here I won't go into specification details as these can be easily found on speacialised sites for reviewing digital cameras.
The Dimage 7Hi IS a good choice and I never regret buying it. Yes, it takes some time to learn how to use all the features - meaning, one will have to spend at least a few months and/or take several hundreds of snaps to be able to say: 'Now I mastered it!.' But that's a real joy and there isn't a thing that one can't do with this little 'monster'.
I bought Dimage 7Hi because of sufficient 7x optical zoom and quite wide lense (for landscape photos).
If you plan buying it, I would recommend you purchase at least 256MB memory card, two sets of NiMH batteries & charger and a tripod.
I have suffered two failures of the viewfinder which should switch over from the screen image when you bring it up to your eye. It cost over £100 to cure the problem last time. Has anybody had the same problem and can offer a cheaper cure?
