I Was In The Market For A Digital Camera, My Two O
I was in the market for a digital camera, my two other choices beside the Canon Powershot S-20, was the S-30 and the Elph 110. I guess what helped me to decide on this offering, is
NO 1., it's a 3.3 megapixel camera. This translates into sharper images and the ability to make larger prints. It was $150.00 cheaper than the S-30. But there are trade-off's, with this camera, you only get 2X optical zoom, whereas with the S-30 you get a 3X. The S-30 has movie mode, but I honestly doubt I'd ever use that feature anyway. I mean who are you going to share a 16 meg file with? Especially if they have a 56K connection. Getting back to the deciding factors on why I bought this camera over the others.
NO. 2..It came with an AC adaptor. The S-30 doesn't. So I suppose there are trade off's, there is in anything. The S-20 also comes with an LCD display on top, which the S-30 omitted. As far as I know it's only available on the G2 now. And I wasn't about to pay $1300.00 for a digital camera...uh uh.
So far I would say I'm fairly pleased with the results. ONE nice feature is the super fine JPEG compession mode. Although it is JPEG, the compression is so low, you cannot visibly see any degration of the image quality, as well as the fact that it takes up only a fraction of a TIF file. 2 megs as compared to 10.

Hey,
I read the "more detailed" review posted by Steve and I have to say .. it's the most honest, candid and useful review ever. the kind of advice you expect your best friend to give you.
I actually bought myself a S30 and then stumbled upon this review and much as i was tempted to return it and exchange for a S10. I settled for an s20 and spent the difference towards extra memory.
Thanks again. Your review was a big help.
Cheers

I Use The S20 On My Long Runs. It Easily Fits Into
I use the S20 on my long runs. It easily fits into a small 'walkman-style' fanny pack, and takes the shock of several hours of bouncing with no problems.
The controls are easily reached with one hand.
The software that accompanies the camera is good, one of the best being the multiple-photo stitching utility.
Strongly recommend getting the IBM microdrive. The combination of the camera and drive is fantastic.
