I have owned my Sigma 18-250 f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM for about 4 months and it has been well used. It has been used under all lighting conditions and focal lengths, even close up photography. I cannot fault this lens and it has surprised me with how sharp it is. The auto focus is very fast and extremely accurate as well as quiet due to the HSM motor. The Optical Stabilization works well and in my opinion it is as good as Canon's IS system. The build quality is superb and is finished off well, and should stand up to being well used for a long time. The optical quality is superb right through the whole focal length. The best range is from around 50mm up to 200mm. The lens's 'sweetspots' are F8 and F11 and will give you good sharp shots pretty well throughout the whole focal length. This is a big lens with plenty of glass in it, as it must have to attain the massive span from 18mm to 250mm. Because of this the lens is a little on the heavy side, but is not too heavy to be uncomfortable. I can carry and use mine all day long with no problems at all. When the lens is new, you may find that there is some stiffness in the lens, but this eases with use. You may also find that you get some lens creep,(understandable with all the glass that's in it) but there is a locking switch to prevent this. This is the ideal holiday lens if you don't want to carry all your lenses with you. This lens will cope with just about anything you can throw at it. Sigma also supply a first class lens hood that locks onto the lens. The lens diameter is 72mm if you wish to buy any filters.

To sum up, this is a quality lens at a great price, and I can without any doubt recommend it.
