Fantastic Images
I'm a professional photographer & have had many camers I still work with the EOS 500 with several lenses to produce amazing black & white images, modelling portraits art images, always prefered SLR to DSLR though I have both, I always shoot on manual settings on all cameras perfect for events also with speedlite, love it I'm old school :)
I have the same camera but am failing to find batteries for it, even Jessops are struggling. Can I ask please where you get yours from.

Do You Want To Win A Prize For 'photograph Of The
Do you want to win a prize for 'photograph of the year' or sell a photo for thousands of pounds, or maybe you want to capture a moment in high quality and be proud of what you've taken?. The EOS500 does the latter, very, very easily.
The Canon EOS500 is intuitive, easy to handle, fits nicely in the hand (albeit you get finger nail marks on the body!) and feels like it means business, and it does.
I have used the in-built flash, but like most in-builts it's good for about 3 metres, but the camera handles and works with a third party flash exceptionally well. My flash photography has improved, at long last.
The HD video - hmm! Yes it's very good, but I bought a stills camera. Don't get me wrong, having the ability to record video is great but ..!
This Canon camera is the best I've owned, and I've have three. I am extremely happy with the results and feel it is well worth the pennies.
Basically, get it, you will not be disapointed.
The reference to HD video tells me this guy is referring to the EOS 500D
as opposed to the EOS500, which is a 35mm film camera!

Long Lasting. I've Had The Canon Eos 500 Since 199
Long lasting. I've had the Canon EOS 500 since 1992!!!!!! I've shot over 300 rounds and I have never ever requested any service. I have to admit I take care of it and not put it in too much unhealthy conditions but... over the years it has gone to sea, mountains, forests, crowded places and some pretty extreme heat (over 45oC) and cold (less that -20oC). So far, it's not giving any hard times. I only have changed the rubber around the eye as it eventually got cut off last year.I'm buying a digital only for the convenience...

Very Good Slr, Now Replaced By Eos 300, Have Made
Very good SLR, now replaced by EOS 300, have made lots of picture sales from this camera, (provided lenses are good quality too!). Have replaced it with EOS 50 but preferred the lighter 500, easier to conceal when backpacking and less value to worry about. Performed great in all weathers and temperatures, will buy EOS 300 next, good enough for prof. sales.

I love this camera. It's not a real pro camera(pro cameras:Nikon F4, F5, Canon EOS 1, 1N, 1V, 3), but it has a lot of features. It is a cheap and very good camera. This camera is good for from children to professionals.

I Use The Canon Eos 500 35mm Slr Camera For Copy P
I use the Canon EOS 500 35mm SLR camera for copy photography and have found that using a 50 mm micro lens coupled with a life converter and using 100 asa film I am able to produce excellent copies of old photographs.
This camera also doubles as my general camera and using the lens supplied when I purchased the camera, I am getting the results I am very happy with. This is in all conditions.

The Canon Eos 500 35mm Slr Camera Does Everything
The Canon EOS 500 35mm SLR camera does everything I want without a huge price tag.
If i smashed it tommorrow, i'd be back out to get another.
As it's my first SLR i cannot compare it to any other, so i don't think the star ratings are appliccable but they have to be filled in.

I Have 10 Years Experience Behind Me To Quote That
I have 10 years experience behind me to quote that some thing is lacking in the Canon EOS 500 35mm SLR camera when u use it with built in flash in any auto mode at night (green, P, A-dep). In all these modes where u want to capture the moments instantaneously, many many of my photographs turned out to be under-exposed. When i used it manually with another semi-auto flash (non canon, vivitar) thing came out excellent. Auto-focusing is excellent in the darkest times.
You will never get over the issue of underexposing shots in poor light with a "built in" flash, which is exactly why professional bodies dont even have a built in flash.
You may as well ignore its being there unless you are using it to supplement low light levels, even then Id shy away from using it as it doesnt do the camera justice.
Get a half decent flash unit instead.
Thanks for your comment, very interesting. I'm looking to buy the EOS500 as it seems to have a strong reputation.
Could someone tell me how easy it is to get round the problem of underexposing pictures when using the flash in auto mode by just simply using the manual mode instead? Is it tricky to gauge what the appature and speed settings should be? This would enable good pictures to be taken with the flash without having to carry an external flash around.

Not To Hard To Master, Great For Both Manual And A
Not to hard to master, great for both manual and automatic operation.
can achieve some very professional photos.
Hello,
I got this camera from my brother-in-law who passed away a year ago. He lived in Australia and had thrown away the manual. Does anybody know if it's possible to get it from somewhere? If you do, please contact me at [email protected]. It's a pity to have such a good camera and not know how to use it!
