After Much Deliberation I Decided To Opt For This

After much deliberation I decided to opt for this British Telecom Equinox 1200 Twin Pack phone as I liked the "feel" of it; Just like a mobile phone. This does come at a price however, the Equinox is quite an expensive phone. The colour display is attractive with many customizable features including wallpapers & ringtones etc, again just like a mobile. The call sound quality is very good and it is generally a nice piece of kit. In the side of the base unit is a SIM card reader which allows the transfer of up to 200 names/numbers from any mobile phone SIM. This is particulary useful if you have more than one handset as the same numbers can be loaded to all handsets very quickly, saving many hours tedious data entry.

The SMS facility is also very good. The phone line must have caller id enabled (a very cheap BT subscription service) and then the phone can receive SMS just like a mobile. The ability to send also exists but there is a charge of £0.10 for each message. This, however, is cheaper than some GSM networks.

My only real critisism of the phone is one of security. The manual clearly states that it is possible to PIN protect the SMS features to prevent unauthorised use (by teenagers!!). After many hours with the phone not doing what the manual said it should I called BT. No, they said, the phone will not allow this feature. It is an error in the manual. Also I feel that some people might find the screen fonts a little small making the phone difficult to navigate.

Apart from this it is a nice package and works very well.
