Many Of The Mobile Unit Manufacturers Dedicate A L

Many of the mobile unit manufacturers dedicate a lot of effort to developing phones, targeted at business users. So is the E-series of Nokia, which has been created for and is intended to encompass the above circles. After the brief introduction it is now time to present the phone that will be reviewed in the following text, namely - the Nokia E51. Being a "successor" to the E50 and, as you may be already aware, meant to serve the needs of business customers, it comes with a very pleasurable and stylish design, compact size, and quite a good set of functions

Nokia E51. Excellent Phone. Another Long Awaited M

Nokia E51. Excellent phone. Another long awaited masterpiece by Nokia. A while back I use to have the Nokia 6310i which in my view was one of Nokia's best phones. After having that phone I struggled to find a direct replacement or even a phone of the same quality. I even nearly chose a different brand which was hard for me as I ' m use to Nokia's menus. About 4 months ago I decided that I would purchase a phone direct from Nokia themselves so I chose the E51 for it looks and the reviews. Nokia themselves were fantastic to deal with and so forth. The downside is the camera but in my mind I didn't choose the phone for pictures. The one thing that nearly put me off was the fact it had symbian software on it and from previous Nokia's that had the older version of symbian software I did not have high hopes. When I received the phone and couldn't believe that from turning it on to the point of it booting up it didn't take so long unlike my previous symbian software phones. The menus are so easy to navigate and the call quality from the phone is the impressive. The battery life on the phone is more that six days with general usage and the display is crystal clear. The best part with this phone is its metal with a small amount of plastic so away with the poor plastic that ware tare a fancy phone normally get. The version I bought was the black one which I did really want the silver version but since I've had it I've not thought about the silver one. This phone really does live up to the old 6310i. Nokia have not made this the most available version like they did with the 6310i and I think they made the right move. Again it's a business class phone that live up to its expectations. They great part about my version is that I bought it direct from Nokia and there is no network branded software on it which makes the boot and use times much more stable.

Let's Establish One Thing From The Outset; The E51

Let's establish one thing from the outset; the E51 reeks of quality from the simple but classic looks to the weight and solid feel. Its dimensions enable it to fit snugly in virtually any pocket. In Active Standby, the screen shows much of the information of ones daily activities and schedules in addition to incoming sms messages.

I found the notification light a useful feature. This is situated at the top left of the screen and lights up when an incoming text message has been received.

But the honeymoon ends there; I have a Nokia 6280 so forgive me if I make comparisons.

I am surprised that instead of building on some of the handy and time saving features that the 6280 has, Nokia have decided in their very questionable wisdom to abandon them. For a start; in the 6280 you can delete sms messages by folder; in the E51 this has to be done message by message.

The E51 is aimed at the business user. In that capacity it may well have many features that a business user will benefit from but allied to that, these features must be easily accessed, which in the case of the E51 is sadly not the case ie. if you are not using a particular feature often, you can go mad trying to recall how you brought it up last time you used it. Incidentally, this sentiment has been echoed by colleagues and acquaintances who have the E65.

The E51 may have shortcut buttons but some of them are very small, not ideal for those who do not have pencil points for fingers! Having said that, the keys themselves are very easy to use. Sadly, when in Active Standby, the sides of the navigator cannot be used as a short cut. To some extent this is the same on the 6280 but here at least the bottom and sides of the navigator can be used whereas in the E51, non are available for this function. This effectively deprives you of four shortcuts.

Although the E51 is equipped with GPS and maps, they can only be accessed via the internet. Also, the back has to be removed to access the memory card. The synthetic voice which translates incoming text messages to speech, is the worst I have experienced to the extent that to me it completely negates any value it may have had. And although you can choose between a male and female voice, in application called Speech Aid, only the male voice can be used.

In conclusion, I am returning the E51 admittedly with some regrets. But I think that the hassle that I know I will experience, outweighs any pleasure I may have derived from what could have been a winner.

The Nokia E51 Is A Great Phone, Very Pleased. Reli

The Nokia E51 is a great phone, very pleased. Reliable, does everything I want it to. Only missing Sat Nav but probably wouldn't really use it anyway. Everything is customisable and I can now access everything I need to within about 1 click.
