Epicurious

Epicurious is an application for the iPhone which is part of the website of the same name. Epicurious is a food and cooking website founded by Conde Nast which is based on two of their magazines; Gourmet and Bon Appetit. The app is really simple to use but is backed by a fairly big database of recipes (about 25,000).

You can either search for a recipe using the name of an ingredient or dish or you can choose to browse through their recipes using themes like 'weeknight dinners' 'healthy lunches' or 'cool cocktails'.

You can flick through search results like coverflow in iTunes and the search results generally come with a photo which is cool if you're looking for visual inspiration.

The recipes themselves are detailed and come with full ingredients (the use American measure) and also reviews of the recipe by other users so you can get an idea of whether it's really easy to cook or not from other users. It also has a fantastic feature where you can turn your phone to landscape and step-by-step cooking instructions are displayed on screen for you to flick through.

The other handy thing is you can add a recipe to your shopping list so you can go to the supermarket and buy what you need for a particular dish.
