TomTom Start 20

The unit itself is small, slim and light weight. The picture is sharp and gives clear instructions, the only problem is that I am forever waiting for a valid GPS signal. I am a service engineer and can visit 3 or 4 addresses in a day, meaning a sat nav is vital. On most occasions I wait for a signal but have completed the journey before a GPS signal has been found! The Tomtom start 25 is not fit for purpose.

I never was a great fan of the TomTom brand (something about the name which I have never liked) but I thought I give a go for the reason it is so popular. I wish I have never done it. From the very start it gave me all sort of problems.

Design: Not much to tell about it it is alright, the size is fine, I like the integrated suction cup

Screen: bright enough but the touch screen feature is horrible. It is unresponsive and very slow.

Usability rating : ZERO. it is simply not working. In three month it broke down twice. Both occasion were the same that is cannot find the satellites any more. Very frustrating when yo want to get to somewhere. Exspecially if you have to go in time or if you are a driver... The website says it needs a software upgrade. The first upgrade took 6 hours. The second upgrade (with the replacement device) took a few minutes but it changed nothing it is still not working. The third upgrade seemingly has helped as it is operational again but I have no trust in it any more.

Support: website is awful, the software which is connecting the device to the pc is rather annoying

When it is working: when this thing decides to work than it takes you from A to B mostly alright. You have to take the recommended routes with a pinch of salt as it is quite often a bit of a nonsense. Of course when you realize that is all too late already...

I am cursing the very moment when I have decided to buy this piece of useless equipment. My other satnav (not a TomTom) which I have bought 6 years ago for £50 is still working faultlessly.

It is a shame for such a big company and I know I am not the only one who is experiencing these problems. I really do wish that this company will be the next victim of the economic downturn as earning money from selling devices which are not working is not very fair.

I will never touch a TomTom product ever again I would not even recommend it to my enemy to buy one (well actually I might would recommend it to my enemy as he/she would never find me with this satnav for sure...)
