I Have Had This Unit For A Couple Of Years Now And

I have had this unit for a couple of years now and it generally works fine. Route planning can be a little odd at times but with common sense it is ok. It has a tendancy to crash sometimes and needs rebooting. On a couple of occassions I had to reload the operting system. Not easy when travelling! Because it has no memory card, the maps no longer fit as one piece. You now have to load Europe in 4 sections. No greast issue but the provision of a card slot would have saved all the hassle.

I bought mine in June 2009 because it had Europe on it. Until I took up the offer to renew my subscription all updates had worked fine then.... The day after paying the £35 I did what it told me to do - an update. It crashed and eventually after many emails and following their advice it no longer connected to my PC and was useless. They did take it back and replace it. The new one required an update - back to square 1. THe current version of the West European zone map will not download on to it 2GB is not enough. It is supposed to have the whole of Europe not just a bit!

A waste of £200 and a further waste of £35 for the update service

Would Never Recommend A Tom Tom To Anyone. My One

Would never recommend a Tom Tom to anyone. My One XL looses it's charge and shuts down without warning. Updates have now removed UK postcodes and won't accept my activation code. In Ireland the maps were so poor sometimes it showed us driving over fields! Never again!

This Is The Second Tom Tom Device I Have Purchased

This is the second Tom Tom device I have purchased and very disappointed. I have similar experiences to other uses. The device is unreliable, requires re-booting and lots of fiddling to get it to work each time I get it out to use. I have got into the habit of printing maps to take with me because it fails at the worst possible time. Very frustrating

My Tomtom Xl Live Is My Second Tom Tom.it Had To B

My tomtom xl live is my second tom tom.It had to be changed once and I had a lot of trouble and many emails in order to set it up. It quite frequently reboots for no apparent reason. Recently I have had two days when it started out OK then just refused to navigate. Every time I wanted to navigate to an address (postcode, intersection, street and number, city centre) it just froze and then rebooted. So in the middle of a day out and a working day I had to rely on my I phone. I might just have to revert to buying maps again. Don't buy a tomtom, it is too unreliable and lets you down without warning, usually when you most need it.

The device is terrible. The device is new but the maps are very inaccurate so so I tried to update the device online but of course their update/installation of their device management program sucks as well. This is the 2nd one I have bought (US and Europe) so I must be the sucker.

Originaly Bought The One Xl Many Years Ago And Had

Originaly bought the ONE XL many years ago and had a generaly good experience with it, but when I recently tried to update with new map configuration everything changed. System started with big red 'X' on the screen, contacted via website and found the answer or so I thought. When I did mange to get the ONE XL past this everything had been deleted, so following instructions from their website formated the TOM TOM(which took 12 hrs!!) but no avail. Eventually e-mailed and rang TOM TOM who advised me to by another UK and Ireland map @£40 and re-install as the original backups were not on my computer. I now need to re-format my ONE XL (another 12hr wait) and hope that this works.

This Tomtom Does Not Recognise The Congestion Zone

This tomtom does not recognise the congestion zone in London. I don't think it warns you about any toll roads coming up either. It crashes a lot and was returned to amazon & I got my money back. I stupidly bought a more expensive model on the recommendation of tomtom & bought it directly from them. It also crashes & doesn't have enough space for the map. No expansion slot either. Although they have a 30 day map guarantee, they will not refund me for the unit. If you are going to buy one, do not go directly to tomtom. You will not get your money back if you find any faults within 7 days.

When Purchased New You Are Allowed To Download The

When purchased new you are allowed to download the latest maps just once. The download is quite slow, taking almost an hour, even though I have a fast broadband connection, the Tom Tom server timed out five times, sometimes after only a few minutes. Fortunately the download can be resumed without starting at the beginning. Data transfer is slow to and from the unit, full backups taking over an hour even with USB2. Route calculations take a long time, I would say at least ten times as long as my previous Navman unit. The display isn't particularly bright, especially in sunny conditions but it has good resolution, and the manufacturers have used this to reduce the size of the lettering making some of it too small to quickly and easily read. It has some very useful features like written map instructions, lane indication and zoom in and out on a planned route. It seems a well constructed unit and the routes it chooses seem very good.
