Tom Tom Go 950 Live

I bought a TomTom 950 Live four months ago and soon after, their website advertised quarterly updates so your map is always up to date.

I had bought a 950 which includes the maps of UK, Europe and US and Canada.

However, I just wanted to get the quarterly updates from the UK as I will be visiting the USA maybe just once or twice.

TomTom will not allow just the update of where you leave but you need to update all maps, regardless of your needs. UK £ 5, USA £ 10 a quarter.

It would be cheaper to buy a base model with just the map of Britain and when you need the US map, just buy a device when you get there, much cheaper.

Also, I have just found out that if you buy a Garmin device, you can pay a one off charge of £ 75 (UK and Europe) or £ 95 for Northern America and you get the updates ( 4 a year) for the life of your satnav.

If you have a TomTom, 10 years of updates would cost you £ 1000.

It's a no brainer.
