I Can Only Assume All The Other Reviews Are For Th
I can only assume all the other reviews are for the new 910. I have a refurb, Hard disk version, which cost £90...Best money I have ever spent. Bought it to go on a long holiday in USA, crossed many borders..UNIT WORKED 100%, VERY ACCURATE, NEVER FROZE, VERY EASY TO USE.. As for being sensitive to temperature, I used this in death valley at 160 degrees ground temperature..car A/C failed, Tom Tom never skipped a beat !!!!!
The cost of this unit in the UK was less than the cost of hiring one in the US so the unit is now free !!!
I use it all the time here in the UK & it is really reliable.I have not tried the map upgrade facility as....WHO CARES !!!!!!! civilian satnav is only an aid, If you want 100%, get a military spec differential unit. VERY PLEASED, WOULD BUY AGAIN..

We bought this Tom Tom Go 910 for £500 and within 2 years the battery stopped working. We also had non stop issues with trying to find GPS signal even thoughwe live in central London. Price is ridiculous for what you get especially when you consider the poor reliability
Tom Tom Go 910 Have Some Of The Most Expensive Map
Tom Tom Go 910 have some of the most expensive map updates in the industry. Now they charge for the map update based on the length of time it has been since your last update.
If you do not want the automatic annual, quarterly update, they will not allow you to just download a map update.
The original 910 GO was great because it had an 18 gig hard drive and ran under unix. Once they went the Microsoft route, and started using only flash memory cards, they severely limited the products and their capability.

Clear Picture, Nice Size, Clear Voice, No Bluetoot
Clear picture, nice size, clear voice, No bluetooth compatibility with most phones. Can't get all the addresses, a lot of places that not show off on this equipment.
I bought this GPS for $ 645.00 and I think is not worth it, got lost several times in Miami and Tampa because the GPS never found the place.

First Time The Tomtom Go 910 Failed (not Charging
First time the TomTom Go 910 failed (not charging so battery gradually died) the company really quickly arranged for pick up and repair. However after only a couple of weeks use same problem occurred only wouldn't start up. Company slower now especially as I'd indicated that I wasn't happy about getting another repair and wanted another unit.
Will keep you informed.

Besides The Initial Problem I Had With The Cigaret
Besides the initial problem I had with the cigarette adapter charger burning out, I have not experienced any other problems with my TomTom 910. Great features include finding nearby restaurants, Post Offices, shopping centers, etc listed by closest to nearest, I am very pleased with my unit.

I Was Disappointed With This Purchase. The Particu
I was disappointed with this purchase. The particular unit we bought seemed to have difficulties simply registering to the satellite network. This happened despite us purchasing a completely new unit that was at the time the best unit offered by the manufacturer.
Despite having tested all of the variables (eg in different cars, out of cars entirely, various locations UK and abroad, sunny/cloudy days, when fully charged and when partially charged) there was no pattern to the problems.
The unit went back and while turnaround time on this was great, despite having a part replaced this made no difference to the unit. Roughly 60% of the time it still seems to take 20 to 30 minutes to connect to the satellite network - so ok to use on occassion but certainly not quality that I expected after paying hundreds of pounds.
My next purchase of a sat nav will probably be a different brand - something simpler, cheaper and hopefully better. A smaller unit is probably going to be easier to quickly slip into a bag when leaving the car too. Sounds like a small consideration but satnavs really have to be locked in the glovebox each time you leave the car or taken with you - it's a hassle so a smaller more portable unit would be far better.

At Time Of Purchase The Tomtom 910 Was The Top-of-
At time of purchase the TomTom 910 was the top-of-the-line tomtom sat nav model. Bought new for several hundred pounds and figured that weightiness and high price tag would equate to reliability and robustness. Big mistake.
The unit we bought was unreliable from the outset. It has difficultly connecting to the satellite network about 60% of the time - regardless of country, continent, location, car model (in fact if in car at all), software updates, level of battery power, cloudy day/sunny day. It can often take up to 20 to 30 minutes to register.
Accordingly the new unit was returned to Tomtom. They quickly repaired (didn't replace despite being new) and sent it back with an unspecified repair - after spending several hundred pounds I would have liked to know why this was faulty. The repairs didn't fix the problem.
A casualty of a busy lifestyle, this unit now lives in the glovebox. It is usually used only for long car trips - ie when it doesn't matter if the unit takes half an hour to register. If we have to stop enroute then we leave it on and lock it in the glove box - this is so we don't lose the connection and potentially have to wait an extra 20 minutes for the thing to reconnect to the satellite network if we don't have a printed map with us!
My experience on this occassion has been that money spent on sat navs DOES NOT equate to reliability and quality. My next purchase will be a different brand. I will buy a smaller unit with less whistles and bells in the hope that it's sat nav function is reliable.
Would also like to say to first time buyers that size does matter in the sat nav world. All sat navs, cables and holder usually need to be locked in the glove box to deter thieves - this is also a good idea for insurance reasons. This becomes a pain with a bulky unit like the GO910. For me it would be far easier and convenient to have a smaller model so I can simply tuck it into my bag or jacket in wintertime than to worry about unplugging and locking this away each time I leave the car. Also would be handy to have the unit while walking sometimes. Setting aside the reliability issues I find the unit is also just too heavy to be worth carrying - far to heavy for a handbag anyway.
A good feature of this sat nav is that you can find alternative routes if there is a traffic jam or road block (even in an area you know roughly but mightn't know the back-doubles). Don't get to use this much though as my unit has been so unpredictable it's not worth the grief and annoyance of getting it out of the glove box.
To a friend would definitely suggest a different model and would explain that my experience with this brand has been disappointing too.
Some sat navs struggle to get an accurate fix in newer cars that have either heated or UV reflective windscreens. If you hold a piece of white A4 paper against the outside of the screen and the glass is either slightly blue/green tinted or has regular thin lines when you look at the paper from the inside of the car, it's likely to block GPS signals.Plus, I wonder if the new technology in the Tom Tom 910 might still be "too new" and have some minor bugs?
