There Has Got To Be A Better One Somewhere

Owned this for three years. After 18 months the battery died. I asked Tom Tom for cost of getting a new battery they replied \"charge it for two hours\" *%#}#%*! I toook it apart and fitted a new one myself. Their support is awful. They don't read the questions. It frequently locks up. Only the reset button will bring it back to life. When it goes properly I like the Bluetooth facility it works well with the iPhone. The maps are well out of date and the cost of the updating service is extortionate, a few pounds more will purchase a new product. It won't be a Tom Tom.

Well I'm Not Sure About The Other Reviews On This

Well I'm not sure about the other reviews on this site but I have not had any trouble whatsoever with my GO720. I have used it all over Australia including rural areas and on dirt roads and it has rarely been caught out. In addition to this I have just been in Europe for 6 weeks where I used it in Ireland, Germany and Italy and it didn't miss a beat. Not once did it fail to get me where I wanted to go. Not even in the midst of Florence and it's myriad of tiny and confusing streets did it get tripped up. I have had it now for about 2 1/2 years and I have very few complaints. It's also beautifully built; far better built than the current Tomtoms. Maybe they had a few quality issues and that is being reflected on the other reviews on this site, however my experience with the GO720 has been all positive.

I've Had My Go 720 For 2 Years. Had Trouble With

I've had my GO 720 for 2 years. had trouble with the map accuracy right from the beginning. support recommended i buy another map. that's when i started having problems with the memory card and map updates. the device freezes at least once a week. This problem resolved upon a quick reboot from the laptop. since installing windows 7 on the laptop however, tom tom home application no longer runs and i can't unfreeze the device. the support and website from Tom Tom is terrible. wish i had bought a different nav device.

my advice... steer clear of TomTom if you have a choice. Especially if you (like the rest of the world) plan to run Windows 7 in the future.

Bought It Three Years Ago Maps Already 2 Years Out

Bought it three years ago maps already 2 years out of date i paid £249 and when asked why maps where so out of date was told i need to buy the latest.

It is suposed to have all the latest maps updated i have even sent in updated roads by me and still it shows that the main road i am on is a feild.

They do not want to help just take your mony and run bought at Halfords.

My daughter bought a Garmewn for £120.00 it runs rings round my tom tom go720

With europe other than having western europe on same as mine came with i had to pay £39.00 to add western urope came to Hokenheim in Germany sat nav went of and could not use for some 40 miles till i was in Poland then it just came on but about 10 mile of route.

Befor buying a tom tom beware of constant updates that cost far more than the rest for camera's and map updates very disapointed especialy as i am a long distance lorry driver that needs to use it often.

When i change it will never be another Tom Tom even though they are very easy to use but thats where its stops keep well clear and save yourself a load of money i wish i had.

Have Had This Now For About 2 Years. Soon After Ge

Have had this now for about 2 years. Soon after getting it, the unit started to re-start after shut down. Battery was then drained before I came to use it and soon stopped holding it's charge. Should have sent it back to TomTom, but decided that considering their poor customer service rep was just not worth it.

Also found that when I got fed up with the advance turn directions, they would not turn off, regardless of the unit's setting, so I turned off the speaker instead.

Was not impressed at all with this unit and will not buy TomTom again. Waaaaay too buggy.

I've Had, Or Should That Be I Had, The Tomtom 720

I've had, or should that be I had, the TomTom 720 for about 18months. It wasn't heavily used, just a few times a month. The first thing i noticed was that it would take ages to get a satellite fix. Sometimes over 5 minutes. I'd restart it and when i got home, sync to tomtom home for any updates.

Then the battery life dropped off. For the last 6 months I had to keep it connected to the incar charger. This then caused the usb connecter on the tomtom to get loose and the charger cable had to be looped around the unit to keep it from falling out.

Then, it just died. It stopped loading up and told me it couldn't find the hard disk. I tried to reinstall all the software but its having non of it. I'm loathed to buy another tom tom, so hopefully there's an decent alternative out there.

Tomtom 720 - I Agree With Many Of The Other Review

TomTom 720 - I agree with many of the other reviewers. This is a good device let down by TomTom themselves and poor design features. What I like: directions are accurate - for the most part, screen is a reasonable size, speed camera works well. What I dislike: map share doesn't work, confusing menus - especially on the move, stupidly small icon for speed camera warning - I don't need my glasses to drive but I can't see the speed on the icon without them. The unit refuses to work when taken from the warm house to the cold car. Has no idea where you are for the first 10 minutes or so. Nearly everytime I sync it and there is an update from TomTom, the voice instructions fail. Zooming of the map is useless on the move. The battery is useless - after a few months, it would not hold any charge and so has now always to be plugged in. No mains charger - usb charging is far too slow. Extortionate prices for new maps and everything else from TomTom. No support - I wanted to send mine back after 6 months but was not able to get any satisfaction. In conclusion, the navigation works well but the device is severely let down by poor design for the price. I suspect that this will be a deliberate move on the part of TomTom to get you to buy the next model up. I am going to try another brand (like Navman) and if better, sell my TomTom on ebay.

I Found My Tom Tom Go 720 Locks Up, Wont Reboot, S

I found my Tom Tom Go 720 locks up, wont reboot, shuts down when it feels like it and blue tooth drops out and won't reconnect. Have sent it back to Tomtom. They wrote back saying no fault found - Every time I use it I'm not sure quite what it's going to do next. Also worth knowing tomtom are very unhelpful and Curry's Electrical aren't prepared to swap the unit, refund or allow me to pay the extra to upgrade, even after the second return.

Same problem - I bought a GO 720 three days ago. Today it shut off (while plugged into the DC adapter and presumably charging). It won't restart. Just emailed TOMTOM and waiting for a response. Bought it at WalMart so I'll return it if no fix (and reassuring explanation) by tomorrow!

The Tom Tom Go 720 Has A Good Screen, Reasonably E

The Tom Tom Go 720 has a good screen, reasonably easy to use, instructions are quite clear and map accuracy is pretty good. Pretty good overall, as mentioned, the sucker is the main issue but overall Id recommend it - its just a shame that something as simple as how it sticks to the windscreen lets it down. The sucker ALWAYS falls off the windscreen which is very, very annoying, particularly if you're driving down the motorway and it comes off the screen and falls onto the floor - not the safetest of environments to pick it up and re-stick it!

Probably one of the better sat navs out there. The map isn't good for newly built up areas but that is an issue with tele atlas rather than tomtom itself.Mapshare is more of a gimmick rather than an useful function. Can only report missing roads. Can not update the maps manually to show the missing roads. Hopefully mapshare will prove to be more useful in the future.. but dont hold your breathe.
