Bought This Unit From Maplin On Sale For £1
Bought this unit from Maplin on sale for £199 primarily for the front A/V in and mp3 playback on 22 June 2008. Had it installed. Seems ok with all media playback. FM reception was crisp. Screen is very good with video. Unfortunately, the machine takes a while to load media from any source e.g. DVD, USB. It made a lot of noise loading disks. Motorised screen mechanism was slow and felt like it would break anytime - definitely not the most robust build I've seen. These are all still passable. But then I found the screen angle adjustment would only work one way - an obvious fault with the unit I got.
Next morning, I called Maplin and they informed me the unit has to be uninstalled, repackaged and brought back to the store. I could have shown them the fault but they insisted it had to be uninstalled.
I returned the unit only to be informed I couldn't get a refund for another 14 days while they verified that the unit is indeed faulty. The result is no unit, no refund, installation and uninstallation expenses - absolutely appalling customer services!
Lesson learnt is, Maplin electronics is cheap for a reason - poor quality product and poor customer services. If you choose maplin products, be aware of the unpublished 14 day refund condition.
