Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

I have used this phone in 2012 and would say that Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 features will give the experiences that you have never received before. I have cheked all its features at Samsung India site before buying this and I love this phone. This is still a good phone available in Indian Market.

I bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 because primarily I am using it as for writing notes at University.

Because I'm studying economics the feature of this tablet that recognises algebra and converts my hand scrawled scribbles into neat symbols is invaluable. It actually does this surprisingly well with its proprietary S-Notes. It does struggle at times; for instance with knowing when to do a capital P or a small p, and it could be improved by enabling you to enter options from a drop down-list when it can't get guess your writing correctly. However you can almost write notes as quickly with this as you can by hand so all credit to Samsung. This therefore is the only workable solution for quickly writing calculus on the market that I know of.

On the positives the battery life seems good and the speakers are brilliant. The S-Pen is as good as it claims to be too.

Frustratingly though some really simple problems ruin the experience of using this tablet.

The S-pen is great but the tablet lacks a good drawing app to take advantage of it ('drawsomthing' can be downloaded which is good but lacks some of the more basic functionality you might want from a drawing app).

The S-notes that I was quick to praise has an incredibly annoying flaw where you can not pan to the top of the screen when you have the options tabs open. You would expect to be able to move the page around freely, which you can, but not so the top of the page is in the middle of your screen where you need it.

Also the handwriting recognition lacks gesture strokes for adding spaces or new lines for instance so you are constantly tapping the buttons at the top of the screen which makes the handwriting conversion less smooth.

Probably the most annoying though is the lack of a drag option for the floating keyboard. By pressing with two fingers you can move the keyboard, but I have wasted ages typing garbage whilst trying to get it to move. A simple boarder to the keyboard so you can drag it with the s-pen would fix this and could be done with a quick software update

My final grudge was the shape drawing tool is clever but it would be good if it could line up with the graph paper lines, if you could move or re-size your shapes and it seems to struggle with curves. These problems rule it out for drawing graphs effectively. Another useful addition would be if it could put grids on lines. or some other graph drawing tool.

Conclusion

If you are using it for algebra or for photoshop work, this is the best tablet on the market for you. However a few simple improvements could make it leagues ahead of the of the competition (inc I-pad) in other respects and for other users too!
