If Spam Is Getting Into Your Mailbox, The Use Of S

If Spam is getting into your mailbox, the use of Spamcop especially linked with Thunderbird and its filters for example can free up your mailbox without changing the way you deal with mail. Maintenance is simple. I just check held mail daily, whitelist those addresses that don't need checking, a reducing task as time goes on, select all spam messages and click on "report spam". I then get a report confirming that all the spam has been notified to the relevant people. If we don't use services like this and just delete the spam then it won't be stopped effectively - for just over £1 a month Spamcop seems to be doing the business

Found a bad point - if you want Spamcop to report your mail they don't tell you but you have to register the mailboxes from whence your mail comes. This is an horrendous process - fine for Geeks but not to be attempted by the average user. Spamcop stops you reporting but carries on with the filtering so your service is not affected, just their ability to act as a reporter so it really is their problem

I Was Receiving A Great Deal Of Spam, And I Could

I was receiving a great deal of spam, and I could not find anyway to unsubscribe, and so I decided to find some way to report it.

Spamcop seemed the answer, so I signed up. I was using it for only a couple of weeks when my website account was suspended by my hosting company. They told me I had been reported for spamming by Spamcop! After a great deal of stress and investigation, it turned out that it had been one of my reports that had caused it. The original spam email had included my domain name in the message, and Spamcop had sent a report, not only to the offending spammer's host, but also to mine. My site was eventually re-instated after I provided a lot of evidence it wasn't me that was spamming. Guilty until proven innocent appears to be the rule in this area.

There is a mechanism to prevent your IP address from being a part of the submission, however the discovery of this was too little too late, and it seemed quite complicated for the average user. Also Spamcop do give you a list of email addresses it is going to send a report to, unfortunately in my case the address was my hosts data company, and it was not one I recognised as having anything to do with my account.

Probably the most important point here though is that the majority of the spam was never stopped by using Spamcop. Only legitimate sources actually take Spamcop seriously, and strangely enough their not the people sending you the spam.

The reason for the low value for money rating is that it cost me time and effort to get my site back online, and my time means money.
