It's Just As Good As Microsoft Word But It's Free!

It's just as good as Microsoft Word but it's free! Writer is probably the best word processor out there for now and as it's cross platform (Windows, Linux and Mac) you can easily share your files with others without having to worry about incompatibility. Also it's almost exactly the same as OpenOffice so you should be able to use it easily if you've had experience with OpenOffice Writer.

The only thing that could improve is that it's not 100% compatible with MS Office 2007/10 files which is quite a big problem but I'm sure as time passes this issue will be addressed.

Overall this is a brilliant word processor for Ubuntu and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

True what you say, but the fact that it is cross-platform (ie that there are versions for Windows, Linux and MacOS) has nothing to do with being able to share the files it produces with people running other word-processors. The latter is to do with the file format, not the platform

Libre Office is cross platform and it can save files in many different formats, including Microsoft's doc and docx formats. Personally I save in odf format, the ISO standard, which I believe recent versions of MS Word can read and write too.
