If You Can Buy The Intuit Quickbooks Pro 2002 Prog

If you can buy the Intuit Quickbooks Pro 2002 program with rebates offered, it would bring the cost down to about $100 (if up-grading), a small price to pay for the many improvements in this version.

I've used many accounting software programs. QuickBooks, however, is my favorite for ease of use and friendly interface. I have used this software since version 4.0, so I'm very familiar with its many incarnations. Pro 2001 was not worth the cost, but Pro 2002 contains valuable features I mentioned under "Good points" that my co. needed.

It is not quite as user-friendly as it's touted, and for an accounting novice, there will be a significant learning curve as there would be with any program, but the "Help" section is comprehensive, plus you can always access Intuit's online Help & Support site. Just don't expect to install it for the first time and know what you're doing in 30 minutes!

This review is worthless in several ways. It takes no notice of what Quickbooks has become - a pipeline for continual advertisements from Intuit for "revenue enhancement". The review doesn't mention that the initial cost is only a small part of the overall cost of Quickbooks. For example, Intuit effectively turns off the payroll function unless helpless users pay a monthly ransom. Product support is outrageously expensive and is not offered unless the customer hands over a credit card number.

There is open revolt against Intuit in almost every internet forum and review website. Somehow this worthless review has missed it all.

Upgrading To Intuit Quickbooks Pro 2002 Accounting

Upgrading to Intuit Quickbooks PRO 2002 accounting software from Pro 2001 was totally painless. The relatively minor improvements certainly are not worth having to pay almost the full price all over again for it so I would recommend that you don't - unless the few changes from QB Pro 2001 are important to you. Once you have accepted that they don't tell you the truth about the 'ease' of use, and you have committed yourself to using this program, you will be happy you made the change. Compared to TAS and Sage Accountant, QB Pro is exactly what they say on the box. But that doesn't mean it's easy. You have to focus and labour hard to get used to this program in the time you have. By the nature of this type of program, you have to learn fast and learn accurately. When you upgrade your accounts package, by the nature of the task, you are under pressure to start with - so best advice is to make sure you really need to change at all before moving. If then, you positively have to move, then avoid TAS, Sage and others and go for QB Pro. It'll be less of a battle than the others. Interestingly, numerous extras make this the 'sexiest' of the pack - if any accounting software can be qualified in that way ! It's good, but it makes you work albeit less than the others.

I'm using QuickBooks 2002 (not Pro - but it's basically the same package minus a couple of things I didn't need). I moved to QuickBooks from a paper and quicken based system. It took me almost 4 whole days to get everything into QuickBooks correctly. Much of that time was spent digging out invoices, receipts and bank statements. What the reviewer says about QuickBooks making you work hard is true - particularly when you start out. But in my opinion it has been TOTALLY worth it. My business finances are now well under control and for the first time I feel confident that I could survive a VAT or IR audit. What's more, once I'd got all my data into QuickBooks I found that using it day-to-day is easy. So there's a steep setting up curve to begin with but after that it really becomes an incredibly valuable business tool.
