osCmax has come on along way since its original release. Whilst it is true that this is an open source platform and may not have the large development budgets of some of the other supposedly free packages available, it has been developed by real users for real store.

Too often the response from ecommerce platform providers is to try an eek out extra revenue from their customers - osCmax is truely free and contains everything that the average online store owner could possibly need.

Integrated with MailChimp, AddThis, Google Analytics etc. and allowing installation of the 5000+ modules from osCommerce it is a truely great product.

The development team are very active and keen to help people develop there stores by extending the software to fix real world issues. This is backed up by an open and friendly forums where you are likely to get a response that helps rather than some sniping remark from a developer who is overly protective of their work.

Why not try to lighten up Magento (already 2.0) than OSCommerce which is riddled with legacy?

There are enough OSCommerce engined packages out there, I really don't see how this differs to those?

I process hundreds of orders per day through my e-store, when I downloaded and built a site with OSCMax it added hours to my day as bulk order processing functions were totally inadequate.

I would strongly agree with the other reviewers - a strong development team backup by active (and friendly) forums along with decent documentation in their wiki makes for a compelling package.

v2.5 is soon to be release which will make this one of the best in class - truely open-source software - no hidden catches or modules to buy.

All in all - a well thought out and presented package.

osCMax v2.0.25 and v2.1

An excellent e-commerce package built on the osCommerce platform but with almost every use contribution installed and properly integrated into a well finshed and useable package.

A soon to be released update (v2.1) will bring even more functionality making this a real class leading product.

Truely open source - no pay per use, pay for template or server restrictions.

Forums are actively run and I agree with the other reviewer - questions are normally answered in a matter on minutes with friendly answers (even for less experienced users).

Large amount of updates have been made to the wiki (wiki.oscdox.com) which makes this one of the best documented osCommerce forks.

Overall: Light weight code, excellent functionality, quick, secure, good support.

osCMax is an open source software package built on the osCommerce platform but with numerous of additional modules installed to make your e-commerce store fully featured out of the box.

Most key modules are already installed but due to the source code remaining faithful to osCommerce pretty much any of their 5000+ modules can be install easily.

The software is undergoing significant improvements at the moment to PHP5.3 and adopting many Web2.0 functionality.

A simple templating system allows novice users to create fully functional store with relative ease. It remains fast, secure and lightweight unlike Magento and others.

I have found that their active forums (http://www.oscmax.com) and documentation (http://wiki.oscmax.com) to be second to none in this space. Questions are normally answered within minutes rather than days by knowledgeable and friendly forum members.
