Could Do Much Better - Like Keep Up With The Other Freebies.
i was really surprised to find that they had a free version of their excellent product - they've always performed well in reviews for their full versions so i thought it can't go wrong with their free version....kinda WRONG..! firstly - some pcs won't install properly - the consent window for the license hides away and we can't continue - happened a few times and I would now ditch that product for that pc straight away - then once installed in wont give you any options like whitelist stuff. it's so minimalistic it becomes a straight jacket.
shame - i really like bitdefender as a brand - but maybe they're giving away the free version with knashing teeth.

Low detection
Blocked my vista...
Nearly blocked all my stuff...!(sorry my enlish)
I used bitdefender only for a while because I observed that its scan quality was not that comprehensive. This happened 4-5 yrs ago then I switched to AVG, then to Avast then Avira now.
I don't like to bash a product, bit defender can scan but it wasn't like other on its tier.
People Who Have Researched Anti Virus Programs And
People who have researched anti virus programs and been impressed by the deserved plaudits earned by the commercial BitDefender may be tempted to try the free version, this would be a mistake. Unlike most other free anti-virus where the freebie is a slightly cut down variant of the current pro version, BitDefender have taken things much much further. The free version is based on the obsolescent version 8 of the software not the current version 10 and it's not a bit cut down, it's been hacked to pieces. Real time coverage and e-mail scan have been disabled, leaving you with a scanner and nothing else.
No matter what the merits of it's scanning abilities I can't recommend this hacked antique when other suppliers will give you an almost completely functional copy of their premier product. Even BitDefender themselves admit it's inadequate:
"BitDefender 8 Free Edition is an on-demand virus scanner, which is best used in a system recovery or forensics role. If you are on an "always-on" Internet connection, we strongly advise you to consider using a more complex antivirus solution."
Which is a pity as BitDefender Pro is a top line anti virus and the free version really should be up there with the best instead of trailing along as such a markedly inferior offering.
