BitDefender Internet Security 2010

BitDefender Internet Security 2010 is so badly bugged & so poorly supported it would be a mistake for anyone to try it.

I have used BitDefender in the past & it used to work well, its seems they've now lost the plot though!!

My issues started from the install, it seemed to go fine, but after initial re-boot I had major issues, processor use was nil, but the PC totally unresponsive & couldn't even be rebooted!! Only by using a 2nd operating system was I able to disable BitDefender 2010 and restore operation. Viewing the 'Support Forum' this issue is not un-common & many have to resort to re-installing windows, BitDefender seem happy with this though, as it seems that's the only way to get BitDefender 2010 to work reliably!.

After disabling a number of processes (indicated by forum posts) I was able to get BitDefender 2010 to work to some extend & it did self repair some that caused the initial failure, however it was necessary to operate BitDefender 2010 with many services disabled, as they either don't work or cause to many issues if left enabled.

BitDefender 2010 did work OK in this mode & did manage to block any viri etc encountered, but failed totally with spam. However during the latter period of testing the issues with the OS returned & it would cause delays in any other processes running, making using the PC quite frustrating, indeed it was like a new machine once BitDefender 2010 was un-installed!!

Support.

Basically none! I raised a ticket for my initial issues, but never got any response to that, viewing the forum that does not seem to be an uncommon experience. Most queries raised in the forum seem go ignored or refer to some mysterious replies never seen. A common theme I noticed was responses to any criticism or major issues saying that posters must really be competitors trying to 'dis' BitDefender 2010!

Conclusion:

Avoid, unless your happy to re-install windows & happy to operate without support.
