Bought my 970cxi new in 2001. It was dear at the time, but it printed beautifully, very silently, had a great duplexing add-on. Produced superb results on highest quality outut onto claycoat stock - photographic quality. I use non-HP inks for economy, with good results. Unit is a little noisier now (wish I could service it!) and sometimes crunches page corners on multi-page duplexing jobs.
However, a great unit that has endured superbly. Highest recommendation - if they are still making them.

Very quiet, good print quality, robust build quality. Cartridges expensive if you buy originals for me.
Overall, one of the most robust and efficient printers I've ever owned. Super quiet in use too. Therefore I well recommend the HP DeskJet 970CXi.

I Received The Hp Deskjet 970cxi Printer As A Hand
I received the HP DeskJet 970CXi printer as a hand-me-down from someone who upgraded to a dedicated photo printer. I was told the printer was in mint condition and only required ink.
I've had problems finding a good printer for my G4 MAC running the latest OSX v.Tiger, but this performed very well.

This printer has been nothing but trouble since new, 2 yrs ago. The paper jams, It won't copy multi pages, all of a sudden it starts printing code, and says it needs a print cartridge when it doesn't!! A very poor printer!!

Bought This Hewlett Packard Deskjet 970cxi Inkjet
Bought this Hewlett Packard DeskJet 970CXi Inkjet Printer about 3 years ago for the office because everyone said that HPs were better than EPSON and have had nothing but troublesome printing ever since. I have trouble with the USB driver, with cartridges even when putting in new ones, with the time delay when printing double sided. I have two EPSON C82s at home and I never ever have a problem - altough they're noisy they're fast and cheap to run.

We have 6 970Cxis in various locations from 1-2 years old
None have gone wrong. Only one has a minor problem- it complains that one of the cartridges is not properly inserted, but this doesn't affect its printing
HPs website is very good for driver updates- e.g. Win 2k and Win Me. Some of these have added functionality. we have switchboxes to share between PCs and there are no major problems
Print qualilty is pretty excellent on everything so it's a good all rounder. As with all inkjets, it pays to use coated papers for best quality, and remember to tell the printer about the paper in the Properties when you print
I have a HP 990cxi - the next generation.
It's the dog's b's of inkjet printers.
Cost about £180.
Very Quiet and Reliable.
Instantly ready at switch on with non of that long winded noisy initialisation you get with Epson printers.
Recognises the type of paper that is loaded and adjusts itself accordingly. Came with an attachment enabling double sided printing without personal intervention.
HP miles better than Epson.
