Cheap Generic Inks Are Available. Fast Good Qualit
Cheap generic inks are available. Fast good quality output on many paper types. Pure B+W is very clean and crisp I use it to print 1/2 size airline tickets with raises many an eyebrow especially when the security scanners accept the 'bar code' apparently this is most unusual so one up for the ip4000.
I used the i865 before the ip4000 and I've got a 2nd ip4000 as a backup. It's now July 2008 and I hope to continue using my ip4000 for years to come.

I Bought The Canon Pixima Ip4000 After Extensive R
I bought the Canon Pixima ip4000 after extensive research which had brought me to a straight choice between it and the Epson R300 (slightly cheaper). I plumped for the Canon because of the excellent support for OSx (mac) and the bundled software. I have found the easy photo print and label print very easy to use and have favoured them over stand-alone and more expensive label print programs. The photo quality is excellent and speed more than adequate. It is pict bridge compatible but I have not tested this. I absolutely thrashed this printer as soon as I had it up and running and it didn't disappoint. I have thrown multiple demands at it and have yet to be let down. Also I have found the cartridges to be very efficient and the fact that you can change them individually has long been a Canon advantage, though most manufacturers have now reluctantly followed their lead. Set up was simple and whilst I read that windows users may have some extra functions with this printer I would not put off any mac user from purchasing this. It's price has dropped and while some say it is a bit of a brick I actually like the sleek design which incorporates a seperate drawer/cassette for loading you photo paper. I have found this very useful...no more changing paper from standard to photo. You just load your photo paper in the tray beneath the printer and choose which size you want and hey presto you have an automatic paper selection. It would probably make more sense to do it the other way round but this was the way I set it up. The dvd print capability utilises a detachable tray and works well. I can find little fault with this other than relatively slow duplex printing.
