I Bought My Asus Eee 900 Soon After It Was Release

I bought my Asus eee 900 soon after it was released in May 2008 with Linux version. At first the desktop menu was so simple seemed unable to be useful for complicated software, but we managed to install Linux Debian xfce4 desktop with the graphics manager x11 specifically x.org, since everything works beautifully just like every other PCs. Now I have Firefox web browser and email, open office all sorts, GNU image, Ekiga & Skype, Pidgin, Cheers and many games installed and working fine. All the software I need are all freely available and working. This highly compact laptop is the lightest also inexpensive yet well functional one I have ever had, without the trauma of everyday virus attack from windows operation system. Fantastic!

Whilst I Was Initially Pleased With My Little Port

Whilst I was initially pleased with my little portable ASUS EEE computer, the novelty soon wore off. I find the linux version not as simple as windows and even installing the most basic programmes were a pain in the rear. I use it to edit my photos and the screen was just too small to gain any detail. The keypad and key board are easy to use and once you I used to them so were the function buttons.

I find the screen is also too small to properly run some windows so I have to resize and scroll down.

Most external DVD's that you buy are plug and play.........for windows, so are not compatible with the Linux OS. No good when you don't have an internal CD drive.

All in all it is okay for very BASIC computing, but for watching movies, editing pictures, typing up course work and downloading custom programmes, not the best.

The Asus Eee Pc 900 Is Small, Lightweight, Would B

The Asus EEE PC 900 is Small, lightweight, would be a good price if it was usable, however I'm on my 4th call today, an hour + 1/2 invested, but no one to tell me why I can't connect to a secure wifi. So far, I'm just out the $300.
