Spotted This Beauty For The First Time On Germany'
Spotted this beauty for the first time on Germany's Cebit show in Hannover in 2007. It was the first HDD and BlueRay product battle during that show. I was impressed by the looks and the specs. I've tried a demo HD DVD and it was simply stunning.
Looking for a replacement notebook for my musical performances(live and studio) i wanted something with a very big screen and Dualcore processor.
With this still in mind i thought i might just buy it. No regrets here.(not cheap though)
The notebook was very easy to install and immediately i was able to enjoy this multimedia monster. Because i use it heavily for composing music etc. i had already planned to replace the original memory banks en stuff it up with 4Gb RAM memory to use the notebook to its full capacity. After using Vista for a while i noticed a performance drop-down. So i went on to search for a possibility to install Windows XP on the G40. First problem: how am i gonna get the Sata HDD's to talk to the Windows setup. It was a time-consuming story but in the middle of that night i had successfully installed Windows XP Pro. And as expected there was i significant performance improvement. Wow it's much faster than Vista. Even though the sound card is OK i use a professional DAW external sound card from Focusrite.
Together with Cubase and VST-plugins i have the perfect portable soundstudio an performance-tool available.
The HD-drive/burner is perfect although Toshiba have already announced to replace this type for a BlueRay drive. Not so bad since i rather use a seperate divice for watching movies. But still it's one of the best "laptops" around at this moment.
