Sony VAIO VGN-S5M/S

The sony vaio vgn S3VP is a very good portable laptop.The screen quality is excellent and the laptop is easy to use.The build quality however is not the best as they basicaly used very cheap plastic and the grey colour is coming off from the sides leaving a white plastic.The battery life is good as i got around two hours out of a single charge,I know it isnt the best by a long shot but it does do the job for me.The speakers are very loud and the sound quality is above average.The laptop looks nice and weighs only 1.95kg.The hard drive is 60GB and there is a 1GB ram.The keyboard is extremely easy to use and the buttons are spaced out well enough.This laptop is aimed at high end multimedia users and well set you back around 1100 pounds.

Low warranty, sony no mercy to replace parts, good quality speakers and monitor, very good keyboard. Design quality, made of the cheapest possible plastic in my opinion, it is constantly cracking and scratches get seen very easily. The charger broke 9 days out of waranty and sony charged me £100 to replace, the HD has broken 3x each time cost me £250 to replace sony had no mercy over that. Very bad quality design. Screen does not fit into keyboard nicely as it should. Warranty was only 1 year which is very low considering the amount of repairs it has needed.

This Vaio is a great travel partner, don't worry about the lack of blue tooth you can add it for 20 euro's. Good for simple work like internet, word, movies and a bit of photoshop

The Sony Vaio VGN-S5M/S is a great small laptop with the best screen I have seen on any portable machine. I use mine with a DVB adaptor for watching TV and DVDs rather than a CRT TV - it's that good. The screen also comes into its own for general use and browsing the web, the graphics are brought to life with the crisp and high contrast imaging that Sony have achieved with the X-Black technology employed.

The hard disk is large and fast enough for general use, and the Nvidia graphics card means it is possible to play most video games without any problem.

I have owned this laptop for over a year and use it every day. In that time I have had one breakdown (a bulb in the screen blew) which required repair by Sony. The laptop was sent to France by courier for repair and returned within the week.

I would buy another Sony Vaio without any qualms.
