Very Slow Machine. It Targets Those Who Want To Us

Very slow machine. It targets those who want to use it off the internet, it takes around ten minutes for it to load and boot up, double that if you are planning on using it on the internet. Once it is going it freezes up continually. Aside from that, the Dell Inspiron 2200 shares some good features like the DVD reader and the 3 USB inputs, but that does not make up for the serious flaws. If planning on purchasing this, definitely consider more RAM and a possible new operating system. Get it if you are on a very tight budget but before doing so consider your other options. It's for those that are not bothered waiting a long time for the programs to open or the computer to start up.

I Have Had My Inspirion 2200 Laptop For About 5 Ye

I have had my Inspirion 2200 laptop for about 5 years, and it has been a good workshorse for me, including for my Open University MBA course. I have taken it all around the UK and Europe and it has worked well.

It is starting to show its age a bit.

It needs a new battery, because the one I have had from new is now failing to hold its charge.

I have just upgraded the RAM, to the maximum 1.2GB, and it was a dream. I bought the RAM from Crucial.com, and did the SO-DIMM upgrade myself.

- unfortunately, it has only one memory slot, so this the maximum it can take, but it definitely speeds up the machine alot.

I have had some problems with sticky mouse buttons, and am now starting to have some sticky key problems, but these are well known.

I would like to upgrade the internal hard-disc capacity, but this might be too hard...so I am using an external USB drive.

The WiFi has been good also.

All in all, I think that the laptop has been very good for me, and has been like my right arm.

I have made it run both WindowsXP Home edition SP3 and Fedora Core 8 Linux, and both were painless.

I hope that this is useful.

Cheers,

Tony

My Mother Got Taken By Dell For Her Inspiron 2200.

My mother got taken by Dell for her Inspiron 2200. Slow doesn't describe how bad it is booting up, opening apps, or running them. Moving backwards might be a better description. You will fall asleep waiting for it to do anything. I have been working on computers for nearly 20 years and the 2200 reminds me of the 8086 (say ancient technology). What a horrendous waste of money and I had to give her an old single core P4 266MHz so she had something to use and she said it was 1000 times faster than the Dell Inspiron 2200 junker she was using. How pathetic is it when 7 year old technology can outrun 3 yr old technology? If it is being given away there is a reason. Reloading helped but it still STINKS!

Both My Daughters Tried To Make This Dell Inspiron

Both my daughters tried to make this Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop work at college. Daughter #1 received it as a graduation gift. Unfortunately the hard disk failed in the middle of finals. The prepaid Dell support was very poor. Although we paid for onsite repairs they refused to come to her college campus. Instead they sent her a new hard disk and walked her through installing it herself. After that, it still kept crashing so she abandoned it at home and bought a new one. It was passed on to daughter # 2 who had the exact same experience. She had her college tech guy look at it and he said even if they reformated the hard disk it would continue to crash. So she also has abandoned it and purchased a new one. What an incredible waste of time and money. Now what do I do with the laptop and the remaining extended warranty?

This Computer Is Definitely For The Casual User. I

This computer is definitely for the casual user. I have a desktop that kicks pretty good so I don't need all the user capabilities of some gaming laptops or whatever. So with the specs I have on this laptop I am pleased.

Basically I'm making my choice on the overall rating pretending Ive never used any other laptops and for the most part it has served me well. someone was going to throw it in the trash after the power cord went out (which I'm hearing is common) thinking it was the motherboard and considering the price i paid for it, it is phenomenal.

Well recommend the Dell Inspiron 2200.

Basically All Of Those Bad Points Listed. I Think

Basically all of those bad points listed. I think my Dell Inspiron laptop is a bad computer to have if you use it often and for longer than a year or two. I live off of my computer and this isn't working very well. (And if you like gaming, forget about it.) I'm stuck now because this one's not keeping me standing anymore but I can't afford to get another. Take my advice--don't get this laptop. You'll save money on maintenance and frustrations by buying something else.

I Have Owned A Dell Inspiron 2200 For Almost 4 Yea

I have owned a Dell Inspiron 2200 for almost 4 years now, and since then I have had to replace the charger twice, upgrade the RAM (all to no effect), filled up 3 USB Flash Drives with work (since I lost 4 very important documents because of one of this laptop's constant crashes), paid to have the keyboard fixed twice and paid to have the mouse fixed. If you own a Dell Inspiron 2200 or are thinking of buying one first or second hand, don't.

Overall I have spent approximately $500-$600 on this laptop and lost countless files. If you are looking for a laptop which is going to be important towards your work/schooling , this isnt the one for you.

All in all please, PLEASE do NOT buy a Dell Inspiron 2200, unless you are buying it to fiddle around with or have very, very long patience.

I Wouldnt Recommend This Laptop For Someone Who Ne

I wouldnt recommend this laptop for someone who needs a reliable laptop and uses it daily. Have had to buy three chargers as they keep overheating and stop working as there is a loose connection in the actual laptop. In total have spent more than £200 repairing this laptop and would have much preffered to have bought a new laptop instead. Also it constantly freezes and is incredibly slow.

I Use This Laptop For Business And Casual Use, And

I use this laptop for business and casual use, and I am quite pleased with it. Mine has 512Meg Ram. I am disagreeing with a couple posts on here....I don't have 'blue screen' crashes, and I have been able to hook another desktop monitor to it with no issues. I like how fast it boots up, and am overall pleased with it's performance.
