Wanting To Replace An Aging But Quality Ctx Crt 17

Wanting to replace an aging but quality CTX CRT 17" monitor primarily to save space and the considerable effort moving the CRT screen around! I looked at various TFT screens available on the Internet. Found this one by searching the Argos site where two were available, both Vizitron, one 15" the other 17". Decided on the 15" and purchased from our local Argos store. The monitor feels a substantial quality piece of kit but only weights approx 3Kg a huge saving on the CRT.

Even though the screen display is 15" this is virtually the same display size as a 17"CRT. The monitor is backed by a 3 year on site warranty as well as 16 day money back guarantee from Argos. Windows XP immediately detected the new monitor & the screen and colour depth were set automatically. The quality of the image whether displaying game graphics (like Medal of Honor) is outstanding; the same can be said of watching a DVD (Lord Of The Rings). The one problem I had is a single missing pixel at the bottom of the screen not noticeable on a bright screen but irritating on a dark background. Took it back to Argos and they exchanged immediately.

If this one is faulty I will exchange for another.

Having Built My Own Pc About 6months Ago, The Only

Having built my own PC about 6months ago, the only left over from my previous system that I wanted to change was my 17" CRT monitor for an LCD. Prices were high & my financial director ('the wife') suggested that I wait until prices dropped a bit.

Imagine my suprise when I found the Vizitron at £189 in the Argos catalogue.

The wife was convinced (whilst in the store) and within 20 minutes I had gained a shiny new LCD monitor with good looks and performance, and loads of extra desk space.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced , good looking LCD, Check out the Argos catologue.

I don't know if this is the exact model I have but it sure looks like it. I bought it brand new in Dec 2005 and on June 3 2007 the back light died on it so now I am feverishly looking for the parts cause this old monitor is killing my eyes just thought I'd let you know the manual says the bulb life is 40,000 hours so be warned.

Following A Move Around At Home, Space Became The

Following a move around at home, space became the issue within my 6 x 9 home office. The large bulky monitor I had always used became the problem with a TFT screen appearing to be the answer. Looked high and low for a budget model wihout any real success, my main concern was seeing the beast in action. Went through Argos for a Vizitron £189 model on the basis that you have a 2 week money back guarantee [nowehere else offering this]. Purchased unit and have been well chuffed, appears excellent VFM with high quality image, no movement and good looks. Thoroughly recommend it.

After Years Of Using A Crt Monitor And After The R

AFTER YEARS OF USING A CRT MONITOR AND AFTER THE RECENT PRICE FALLS OF LCD/TFT MONITORS I DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO SPEND SOME HARD EARNED AND UPGRADE,WHILST ALSO GETTING SOME RETURN ON MY DAEWOO

19"CRT THROUGH EBAY BEFORE THEY BECAME UNWANTED.

THE FIRST STEP WAS ONLINE SEARCHING AND SHOP TRAWLING FOR THE BEST PRICE/QUALITY,AND I HAD DECIDED THAT I WOULD SETTLE FOR A 17"TFT AS I HAD BEEN USED TO A 19"CRT AND DUE TO FLAT SCREEN TECHNOLOGY THERE IS ONLY AN INCH DISPLAY DIFFERENCE,

AFTER MUCH ONLINE ACTIVITY I HAD DECIDED ON A SAMSUNG/ARIES WHICH WAS GOING TO SET ME BACK THE THICK END OF £350,I KNOW THIS IS NOT MAYFAIR END OF MONITOR CITY BUT IT'S STILL THE MOST EXPENSIVE SINGLE COMPONENT OF YOUR PC,AND SINCE THE DAEWOO CRT STILL DID AN EXCELLENT JOB IT WAS GOING TO BE HARD GETTING MY HAND IN MY POCKET.

SO THE DECISION WAS MADE AND ONLINE ACTIVITY RESUMED IN MY QUEST FOR MODERNISATION BUT A NEW PROBLEM WAS TO BE ENCOUNTERED.....................

THE DREADED WAIT FOR DELIVERY.....................

NOW I CAN HEAR YOU THINK "HE HAS USED A CRT FOR YEARS SURELY 2 WEEKS LONGER WON'T MATTER".......

WRONG..WRONG....WRONG....CONSIDER THIS IF YOU WILL AS ROD SERLING (TWILIGHT ZONE}......

[1] I AM HUMAN......

AND PROBABLY MORE TO THE POINT.....

[2] I AM MAN.....

WHICH MEANS THAT AFTER AGES MAKING A DECISION,ONCE THAT DECISION IS MADE IT HAS TO TAKE PLACE INSTANTLY.

SO I DECIDED TO HEAD STOREWARDS IN SEARCH OF A QUICK REMEDY,I WAS TO BE SADDENED BY THE SELECTION OFFERED BY THE WELL KNOWN BIGSTORES WITH TFT 17"

STYLES WITH THICK BEZELS AND BEIGE COLOURWAYS NOT EASY ON THE EYE........

I RETREATED LIKE A DEFEATED WARRIOR NOT HAPPY WITH HIS PERFORMANCE.......

BUT ENROUTE TO MY CAR I SPIED ARGOS, NOT WELL KNOWN FOR IT'S MONITOR AWARENESS SO I ENTERED.

IN THEIR CATALOGUE I FOUND A BEAUTIFUL MONITOR ONLY 15" BUT VERY PRETTY IN SILVER BEZEL AND STAND AT JUST £189.99 I PURCHASED AND RETURNED HOME AND WAS VERY HAPPY WITH IT.

WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY DON'T ARGOS LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS GEM.......IT'S TUCKED AWAY IN THEIR BOOK AND NO OTHER RETAILER ONLINE OR OFF SELLS IT .....A MYSTERY.

Hi,

I recently purchased a custom built Pc and wanted a TFT monitor. The company who built my PC offered me a Vizitron 15" monitor for £229. I almost went and bought it untill I did some research. Finding this review I looked in argos and sure enough saved £40. Thankyou very much. I not only saved £40 but got £15 of gift vouchers for spending over £150 at argos so saved a whopping £55. Thanks. Great monitor great price.

Jessica.

I agree totally with the reviews for the Vizitron display from Argos. I'm really pleased with it; fantastic display, and so far, I haven't noticed any missing pixels. I too find looking down at the monitor more comfortable.

The only thing I wasn't very pleased about was that I later found out about the 17" one, which wasn't even printed in the Argos catalogue (although it might be in the new one), and was only available online. To make it worse, they didn't have any links to say 'Other similar products are ...' or whatever to let you know others actually existed, so I got the 15" when I would have been willing to fork out another £150 for the bigger one. Ah well, their loss.

I notice on their website now that they have a range of at least 6 different monitors, all very good prices. Definitely somewhere to check out. Their computer range (I bought a Phillips/Iqon) is also very good value for money, and they have a good range of cheap accessories such as CDs, storage items etc. It's probably not somewhere that people would think of as a first choice to go for computer/electronic items, but it really is worth trying.
