Sony Quality

Don't beleive the other reveiws they are now out of date, since the analog TV has been switched off the DAB reception has improved drestically I have has this little DAB radio for several years now and have found it very reliable the reception is excellent I even use it connected to my car radio via the aux lead with no drop outs of signal the battery however you really need to use rechargable batteries. If you can still get one buy it....

Just Bought This Off Ebay. Big Mistake! It Was Sup

Just bought this off EBAY. Big mistake! It was supposed to replace a Pure 1500 which had suddenly given up the ghost for some reason. However, we find that on our usual walk along the beach the reception is useless for most of the time. I did find one spot where reception was good for a few hundred yards but then it went back to the constant fading and loss of signal. Screen is difficult to read; not bright enough and basically it's a step backwards for Sony who used to be a reliable company. Wish I'd reead these reviews before buying the thing. Trouble is, the seller won't accept returns! Very wise!

I Made The Mistake Of Choosing The Sony Xdrm1 Mode

I made the mistake of choosing the Sony XDRM1 model based on Sony's reputation in personal stereos, without checking their reviews first. I won't make that mistake again! The sound quality is superb as long as you place the radio at least a metre away from you, preferably hung over a bush, but you can't walk while it's playing as you won't get any reception if you do. If you want a DAB personal stereo with great reception and a long battery life, check out the Pure 1500 Personal DAB Radio.

This Is My First Dab Portable Radio Which Is On It

This is my first DAB portable radio which is on it's way back to Sony because the external power adapter does not work resulting in high battery usage. The sound quality is exceptional, providing the radio is stationary. However, whenever I move with the radio on the reception becomes poor, which is not my idea of how a portable radio should function

The design is great but the poly-carbonate case is easily scratched and I would have expected better quality or at least a case to put the radio in. Also the display is poor, especially in the bright daylight.

When you consider this is over £100.00 Sony need to do better.

I expected more for my money!

Got A Pure Digital Pocket Radio For Christmas Last

Got a pure digital pocket radio for christmas last year which was fantastic, however due to my own carelessness I dropped and broke it, thus giving my missus the opportunity to provide me with a new dab portable radio.

Sorry Sony but there is just no comparision between the reception I got on my old Pure radio and my new very pretty but digitally challanged XDRM1.

I had to scan a number of times before picking up any stations at all, but the quality of reception is just pathetic. Sony would have done better to make it a little bigger and beef up the reception circuitry. All in all its a bit of a gold plated chocolate teapot. Great to look at but absolutely useless.

It's Very Hard To Be Positive About The Sony Xdrm1

It's very hard to be positive about the Sony XDRM1 portable DAB radio because of the hopeless reception. I live in South West London where a scan found 5 stations. Everywhere else in the UK I have tried it hasn't found a single station. I bought the XDRM1 to use when travelling - not to use at home, and it is hopeless. Which Magazine had it as a Best Buy with excellent sound quality, which is fine, but if you can't receive any stations you can't get any sound! If you don't intend to use this device where you have excellent reception don't waste your money.

I agree. I feel that the technology is flawed somehow. The device was probably tested under perfect laboratory conditions and not tested in the field with the operator moving around. With almost total countrywide coverage with DAB you would think that there would not be a problem with reception and of course you would be right (with a fixed DAB receiver) but travelling around with a personal DAB device is a frustrating experience. I would not go as far as to say they are a waste of money but I feel that it is a risk you must be prepared to take. I purchased one and within a week I had sent it back. Check all reviews before you buy and with all manufacturers not just Sony. There will be as many bad as there are good
