Samsung YP-R1

This was a big mistake. The battery depleating even when the device is off. The actual hours of music listening is 2,5 times lower than in specifiacations. My town must be threated as a dumb hole if they sell such abominations here (I live in Russia). The quality was sevearly reduced. I have payed 160$ (with a 35% discount) at an official shop centre. Beware of the low quality and test it according to the specifications.

I've been using the Samsung YP-R1 for the past couple of days, after a friend of mine send me one from Korea and so far, I need to admit that I'm surprised in a positive way.

To be honest, I love Samsung mobile phones and their TV-models, but I never considered buying a MP3-Player. I mean, it's Apple's market, isn't it? And the only serious strong contenders from the south-east Asian region, I knew, were Sony, iRiver and Cowon.

But this small piece of fine gadget boosts the Korean powerhouse among the top companies of the portable audio market. As said, buying a Samsung MP3 player was never something I've considered, but well how are you supposed to do if someone sends on you.

Anyways, as for the size the Samsung R1 is really small. I assume not bigger than an ordinary VISA card, meaning portability is great. The display and its quality are superb. It's not as good as the S9 from Cowon, however, it's perfect considering the price-range.

The audio quality is really astonishing. I'm unsure, if you'll be able to find an equal audio quality in any of the players on the market, also including Sony. The R1 features, something called DNSe, which seems to improve your audio quality, depending on the genre

The R1 also plays video files, however, I'm not a big movie fan, and furthermore the display is too small in my opinion to enjoy a good movie.

Another great feature is the "BeatDJ" function, which allows you to mix up the song's you're listening to. Don't expect wonders or a professional DJ environment, but it's fun!

And the last but not least, the most important and strongest feature the R1 offers. Other than its competitive products, the Samsung YP-R1 supports "Drag'n'Play" for all well-known formats, thus meaning, no more converting for both, video files, as well as audio-files.

Concluding my short review, I have to admit at the Samsung YP-R1 is definitely a product you should consider, if buying a MP3-Player. It provides top-notch audio-quality, fun features, widgets, a touch-sensitive display, pretty user-interface and support for most-known formats!
