Creative Zen Stone Plus 2GB

Worked fine for the first few months, then completely died on me. It's impossible to charge it because the computers wont recognise it. It will attempt to charge for around 10 seconds then it's gone again. You will have to wait weeks to have another shot at it, but I have failed to get it to work every time. Awful.

The Creative Zen Stone Plus 2GB is an utter turkey and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The battery life is so short as to be impractible and each time it dies, my PC doesn't recognise it, so I can't recharge it. The only way to get it going again is to download - every damn time - the firmware through a Creative tool called MP3 Player Recovery Tool. This blows away all my files and I then have to reload the music all over again. At first I thought I'd bought a dud unit and I had it replaced. Exactly the same problems occured with the new unit. You don't have to buy an iPod but don't waste you money on a Zen Stone Plus!

I've had mine for about six months, and I love it, I have it everywhere I go, listening on the bus, bike and walking.

Has very good functionality, I can set it to turn off automatically, and how long the display is on, etc. etc, everything is customisable.

I've recorded lectures on it and the quality is faultless as far as I'm concerned.

the form and appearance are big pluses, even though its not something I care about much, but it really does look cool.

its size and shape make it so easy to slip into your pocket, and operate one handed inside your pocket or without looking.

2gb is more than enough for me, and I play music on it whenever I'm on the move.

I travel by coach from leicester to brighton for university, and the player doesn't last the whole journey most times, but it is so good to have when sitting in victoria coach station.

I got mine for £20 and it was definitely worth it, even with the downsides.

This is a cheap but useful gadget. It is pretty basic but does the job. The best thing about the stone is that you can plug it into a pc and transfer files directly, without need for software. Essentially it is recognised as a portable data key, only you can play music from it. The sound quality is ok, although you might want to invest in better headphones than the cheap pair that come with the stone. Nothing brilliant, but good value for money.

I'm sending it back. Display is invisible in daylight, even at max.

Menu system means it is impossible to operate when you can't see the display.

FM radio is useless, unless you can see the transmitter.

The Creative Zen Stone Plus has built in speakers and good quality. Also a long battery life and I like that it's it is small. It's really really good everyone should have it.

Creative Zen Stone Plus 2GB Review - If you like music on the move you'll love this little gadget. Smaller than a match box - it contains all you need for portable audio entertainment. Comes with a neoprene glove to protect it and a little tie-clip that lets you hook onto your shirt collar or jacket. You only need low volume if its close to your ear so it isn't intrusive to others close by. Comes with excellent , easy to follow software. Loads of free ipod downloads available on the web now. The BBC have a good collection of chat from the radio too. Its easy to connect to the library on your PC and put hours of audio on. Forget the FM radio. It needs the earphones for an aerial. Reception may be good if you live near the transmitter. Recharge on your PC. after 4 hours. Excellent if you walk or work on your own. Highly recommend it.

For a lightweight portable mp3 player that is simple to use and works in a no-fuss fashion, the Creative Zen Stone Plus 2GB is brilliant. Just don't expect too much of it, the software works, but doesn't have as many functions as you may want. 2GB is ample storage space for an mp3 player, especially one which is smaller than my thumb (lighter too). The screen is easy to read as it is a simple black and blue layout, no fancy graphical set-up but it isn't needed, it tells you everything you need to know. It also includes a very high quality recorder and lots of useful features and play modes. You can even flip the screen to make it easier to use by left handed people. The range of colours is great and the price is good for an mp3 player of this quality.
