Stellar Old School Clarity And Warmth

If you can find one, by all means go all in to get it because NOTHING that I have heard in the last 30 years can touch this thing for buttery sweet warmth and clarity. Purchased mine second hand around 1990 and haven't once thought about replacing it, and never will. Pure heaven, listening to your CDs on one of these. It doesn't even have a digital out, and it still easily rates 5-stars higher than any CD player that I have ever heard - and I've heard many. They really are THAT good. Not sure what Proton knew back then, but they created a timeless little classic with the 830R that few can compete with even today. A single disc unit that doesn't have digital out would usually be an automatic deal breaker, but don't be fooled - the Proton 830R is a serious keeper indeed.

The Proton 830r Is A Keeper, For Sure.e

The Proton 830R is a keeper, for sure.Even if the display is out, listen to the unit before to judge it. Very good sounding ! Clear, good definition, good bass, sweet treble, and the highs are crystal clear. Soundstage is ok. It's amazing like old stuff like that, with Philips CDM2/10 and TDA1540P can sound.
