“Script Reading Course”

★★★★★

written by on 29/07/2013

Really useful, intensive course that tells you everything you need to know to start trying to get work as a script reader - including sending you on your way with a contacts list. The instructor manages to pack a lot into the day and you leave knowing exactly how to write a good coverage report for a film company - whether or not you follow the instructions and manage to pull it off is up to you!

“Screenwriting for Beginners Course Review”

★★★★★

written by HPALMER on 29/07/2013

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It was taught by a professional writer with an agent and a proven track record having successfully had a screenplay made into a feature film. You can't get through everything in a day but this covers the basics and helps to highlight some of the pitfalls of the industry. The additional course notes also mean that learning does not stop at the end of the day. There is plenty of written advice and material in the course notes for you to read through at your leisure afterwards and these notes ensure you haven't missed anything. The day was well paced and covered a wide range of areas from hints about script structure to getting an agent. Teaching consisted of teacher-led theory, discussions and clips from movies and television programmes to demonstrate how the theory is put into practice on screen. Inspirational yet still practical and realistic advice. I would highly recommend this course to any aspiring writer.

“Just the job”

I have used IS' services twice, once for a dry-run script report and once for a film coverage script report. Both reports were excellent in highlighting strengths and weaknesses as well as giving pointers on possible solutions. For budding screenwriters with no recourse to objective assessment of their work, this is an invaluable service at an affordable price (if they were any higher, I wouldn't be able to afford them, but for what you get in return it's well worth the investment). Keep up the good work Barney Griffiths

“When I submitted my script to Industrial Scripts' for...”

★★★★★

written by on 11/07/2013

When I submitted my script to Industrial Scripts' for the detailed script development notes service, I had a very simple expectation of what the outcome of the report would be. The consultant evaluating my script would recognize in my work a wildly creative and original screenplay in need of some minor tweaks to plot and characterization. My hopes, however, were quickly dashed when I opened the report to read it, within the first page of the report in fact. With my script analyzed in breathtaking detail, the report catalogues a long list of major plot, character and thematic flaws with scientific precision and detachment. I don't take very kindly to criticism (a character flaw, I know) and I was prepared to be defensive from the first sign I saw that the report was not going to tell me what I had hoped to read. But from the first page of analyses to the last, I have found that I couldn't fault a single criticism, observation or suggestion in the report. In fact I am humbled by the amount of serious thought and hard work that has clearly gone into producing the detailed notes on my script. The report has provided me with the most valuable lesson in screen writing that I have ever had and it is with renewed optimism and energy, as well as with a greater sense of purpose than ever before that I will now re-write my script. I strongly recommend the detailed script development notes service to anyone serious about writing screenplays.

“Made me think.”

★★★★★

written by AllanjLove on 10/07/2013

It's hard to nail down what I particularly liked or disliked about your report. I initially wanted the report to say how wonderful the Screenplay was and how I'd managed to capture the real essence of the characters, plotlines and situations. This was not to be. What I got was a detailed list of the problems, character faults, the lack of motivation and direction.... The list goes on and on. What I must tell you is that you were absolutely right about everything. I was so sure that this body of work was ready to be seen by all that I forgot to finish it and look at the reasons why I needed to write it in the first place. What your reviewer didn't know was that the lead character was actually me and that I was telling my story. Now by trying to tell my story and involving fact with fiction I got lost! What your report has established is an in-depth analysis of my work and I now have a chance to go back to the work and improve it substantially. For this I thank you. Yes I would recommend this service to anyone. If you're looking for praise and to tell you how wonderful you are.. Don't subscribe... If you're looking to improve your work and get an honest appraisal? Then this is a must. Thanks guys! Invaluable!

“I'm very pleased with Film Coverage Report service”

★★★★★

written by madcan on 10/07/2013

Even though I wrote and directed short films before, I needed a professional review for my first feature-length script. I didn't know anything about Industrial Scripts and found them through Google, completely by chance. So, naturally, I was quite hesitant but took my chance and sent the first draft of my script. And after 2 weeks, I got my review today and I couldn't be more pleased with it. It was a very detailed, 9 paged review where every important area was dealt with in detail. The review not only confirmed my doubts about some parts in my script but also showed me tons of other things to improve. I'm planning to send it for a second review once I rewrote. So I can't recommend it enough.

Thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and learnt a lot in a day about screenwriting, film and TV industry. The tutor is an industry professional and the course gives participants a deeper insight into different stages of screenwriting, ideas, genres, structure, dialogue, characters and craft of writing cinematically. It also covers a detailed overview of the industry, comprehensive materials and a helpful contacts sheet.

“And so it begins...”

I've been putting it off for years but now I'm out of excuses. This course is ideal for anyone who doesn't know how to get started. Or in my case, is too lazy to get their act together. The tutor, cuts to the chase and explains things in very simple terms. Nobody in the group felt intimidated to ask whatever they wanted. All in all it's great value for money. NB It's worth getting a good night's sleep before the course as it's a long day and there's a lot to take in!

“Detailed, practical & inspiring reports. Worth the...”

★★★★★

written by Laurent_Leprince on 02/07/2013

I'm a Belgian animated shorts director. I used the "Detailed development notes" service for two of my short film projects and was never disappointed. The consultants read & analyse the scripts thoroughly, they come up with tons of practical advice/ questions that help the project go to the next step. Their advice is really worth the money. We're not used to working with script-doctors in Belgium, especially not for shorts (and even less for animated shorts), but both producers I'm working with acknowledged the quality of the advice. Even when the project is in a bad state, they point at the positive sides of it and have no fear of showing you the huge amount of work ahead if you want the script to become something of a good level. Except for once maybe, the consultants coped really well with the difficulty of dealing with animation, and they even accepted to work on the basis of an animatic for one of the projects. I also appreciated the possibity to have a quicker feedback if needed - at a higher, but still quite moderate rate. One of the reports made me cry as it had seen so well through the project (even things I had not noticed consciously while writing) and helped the producer acknowledge the project's potential. All the reports have been very inspiring and have contributed a lot to my being more and more interested in spending more time on the writing of my shorts, whereas in the beginning I used to shift very quickly to storyboarding. The only regret I have is I sometimes would like to know more about the consultants and have the opportunity to have a cup of tea with them - or even to involve them more in the project, though I understand this is impossible;)-

“Ideal for beginners”

★★★★★

written by lucycam on 02/07/2013

Brilliant and packed day full if insight and useful information. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would recommend it to all looking to start out in a career script writing or reading. The course covers everything mentioned in the spec in loads of detail packing in information and guidance by a brilliant tutor who is current in the industry. While I am sure the dynamic of each group is different what was great for me was everyone in mine was at the start of their writing career so I didn't feel out of my depth. There were only 6 in our group which was brilliant as all questions were answered and we were able to bounce ideas off each other. It was also a great way to meet other writers.

“Honest and Informative”

★★★★☆

written by Manny5 on 30/06/2013

The course was a great, honest, eye opener into the role of a script reader in the film and TV industry. All the information given out was invaluable, and a great source of reference. Totally and completely gave you everything you needed to embark on a career in not just script reading, but also starting off at a low level in the film industry and working your way up. Loved most the analyzing of movie clips to better learn and take in all the keys points on script reading, I think it would be great to add more of this if possible. As a writer it also helped me to look at my own writing from a fresh new, industry driven perspective.

I would highly recommend this Script Reading Course to anyone looking for further information about what Script Reading entails and how to get into the industry. The day was intense but well worth it and very insightful. I thought the tutor was great and covered all aspects of Script Reading, while delivering the information in an interesting way through talking, interaction with the other course participants and showing examples of films and other materials.

I would thoroughly recommend this intensive one day course to anyone considering a career in script-reading, development or screenwriting. It was a comprehensive, detailed and interactive introduction to the art of script analysis and offered lots of practical advice and useful info. “Very Helpful Script Reading Course”

★★★★☆

written by on 27/06/2013

An intense one day script reading course that not only covered the basics of script reading but also went into some details about the different elements of script writing and what makes a good script. They also gave a contact sheet of all the companies in the industry and explained some aspects of how the industry worked so there was also an interesting practical side to the day as well. It was pretty jam packed and I would not have wanted the day to have been much longer, and it would have been nice to have been able to come back into the room during lunch hour (as it started to rain outside) but the content of the course was very interesting and though provoking. Although it's a lot of money to spend on one day I felt it was worth it especially since there was the chance to have our own script report marked afterwards.

“Fast, effective and laser focussed!”

written by Matt2002 on 27/06/2013

Just got a full script report from Industrial scripts, and it will move our project on an incredible amount. Thank you! The report was detailed and insightful. The reader had obviously understood where we were going with the project (possibly better than we did!). We got great constructive feedback - difficult to take at times, but accurate. It will make the next draft so much better and hasten it into production, and on to making a great film, which is the point! Great work!

“Highly Recommended”

★★★★★

written by J.Read on 22/06/2013

I discovered Industrial Scripts via a professional Literary Agent. I'd sent my script to them,(and many others.) It came back with the usual Dear John email. But they mentioned that they only accept material via Industrial Scripts. Normally I ignore these dubious schemes to 'Read your script and get it to Spielberg.' But this came from a good source so I took a look. After spending an hour looking over the excellent website I was convinced enough to part with my money and give it a go. The cruncher for me was the fact that if they liked your script, they would put it into their 'Talent Connector' programme which promotes it to all of their industry contacts - at no extra cost. That sounded like a good deal to me even though I didn't expect to get that far. But I thought at least I might get some professional tips to improve my script before sending to more agents. About ten days later my script returned with the reviewer's feedback. It was very comprehensive, with good ideas for improvement, including some obvious mistakes that I had missed. Surpringly, it also got an 'Honourable Mention' and was put forward for the Talent Connector programme. Pleased ? You bet ! In summary - Very professional, swift, friendly service, worth the money and highly recommended. J.Read

written by newman23 on 19/06/2013

Industrial Scripts are an extremely professional company. The notes I received from my individual script reader were very thorough. He made a lot of good points that will do well in helping my script progress. I am also very happy about being selected for the talent connector, which is a great idea and I'm sure it will invaluable to me.

“You're The Best”

★★★★★

written by on 13/06/2013

I took a gamble and tried the Industrial Scripts services, and I have to confess, you are simply the best in the business. The quality of feedback you sent back to me wasn’t only ‘highly’ constructive, it was extremely detailed and encouraging. You certainly know how to encourage a writer. I will read your notes over and over again before doing a rewrite to improve the story’s core idea, narrative and structure. Thank you to the Industrial Scripts Team. I shall be back with the rewrite. Thank you so much. I truly learnt something wonderful.

“Outstanding Feedback Service”

★★★★★

written by happywriter on 12/06/2013

The quality of feedback from Industrial Scripts is second to none. To date I have received two sets of feedback on a feature script and on both occasions the notes were incredibly insightful and useful. Having a 'fresh pair of eyes' on the script was exactly what was needed to enable me and my writing partner to move on to the next draft and make the necessary improvements. I have just booked another report on the latest draft and will continue to use Industrial Scripts for all my screenwriting projects in the future. Their Talent Connector scheme also looks very interesting and a vital stepping stone to breaking into the industry. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and only wish I had discovered them sooner!

Hi, You'll find guru stuffed with great writers doing work for very reasonable rates indeed. Also odesk. Stage 32 is like facebook for film bods, and there you'll be able to see a range of samples and characters and get a feel for what the writers are like as well as which themes they like to work with. Good luck.

You could try the Writers' Guild of Great Britain- go to their website - saying that you are looking for a screenwriter (Note the spelling). Good luck.
