“Groupon Introduction to Screenwriting”

★★★★★

written by suej52 on 20/09/2013

Great day. Am doing an OU course which includes scriptwriting and I wanted to understand what I needed to do and how to organise. A lot of the content was suitable, although the afternoon was mainly for budding scriptwriters wanting to sell. Friendly and easily understandable - picked up some great 'how to get started tips. Would highly recommend. Guest speaker in the afternoon was a mine of information about the industry. Morning - script structure, genre, elements of what should be included in the script. What genres were good for the UK market at this time, the difference between TV and film writing. Some scripts for sale afterwards at really value for money prices (When they said they would have scripts and bring some money I was expecting them to be really expensive but nothing was more than a tenner and most were well under that price). Worth the full price, great bargain through Groupon.

“ScreenWriting Workshop”

★★★★★

written by Penny_Midas_Rollo on 19/09/2013

ScreenWriting Workshop - Writing Screenplays that Sell - an incredible day, jam-packed-full of really useful information, and a Q&A session with a real Hollywood screenwriter providing genuine insights into the screenwriter's world - sobering, but at the same time inspiring.

“Script Reader Course”

★★★★★

written by Jargosouth on 17/09/2013

This was an amazing course. The tutor, that does script reading work for Universal, was so clear on how to do a script report. He also reminded us of what makes a great script. Then something that you're unlikely to get on any other course. The bit that you really want. He gave a really good guide on how to actually contact REAL people in Industry. Where to find the producers, the production companies and how to network with them and find work. This is the stuff that dreams are made of...whether you are a would be script reader or a young writer do yourself a favour and do this course. All that you need to know about scriptwriting in just one day. Brilliant.

“Writing Screenplays That Sell”

★★★★☆

written by Scaramouche2004 on 16/09/2013

I bought this through a groupon offer but after looking on the website I felt a little dubious, worried that it might just be an excuse for the company to plug its services. I studied Screenwriting while doing a film degree at university and have read extensively around the subject so I was curious to see whether it could tell me things I didn't already know, especially from the selling aspect, which is always the most tricky. I was therefore more than pleasantly surprised to find that it was informative, concise and comprehensive at the same time. The company's services were mentioned once or twice in passing but the main focus was on the craft and selling. The speaker was knowledgeable and precise, there were good examples used to explain many components of screenwriting and the course was aimed at a broad market, from those with still vague writing aspirations to those who have serious ambition and might already have written a few things, of which there was a mixture. There were also published screenplays for sale at sale prices which was a nice touch. The only downside for me was the networking party. I feel that the location could have been chosen slightly more intelligently. Though it was conveniently located in a bar right around the corner from the course, I'm not a fan of having to shout to make myself heard over loud music whilst holding a conversation. I was quite eager to talk to my fellow attendees normally but ended up leaving earlier than I would have liked to literally because my throat was hurting. By all means host networking events in social environments, but if the primary goal is to talk to one another, it's probably better to ensure that it is possible to do so without discomfort.

“Everything America Course”

★★★★★

written by KatherineH on 16/09/2013

Industrial Scripts’ Everything America course was an extremely informative and useful day full of detailed career advice for those thinking of heading to Hollywood. The material was relevant to writers/producers already in the British film industry, as well as newcomers interested in learning about how it all works. The day was jam-packed with information about the US film and television worlds, visa requirements and practical pointers, tips about living in Los Angeles, and what goes on in meetings with development executives (eg. ‘everyone will meet you... once’). The guys at I.S. are friendly, funny, and really know their stuff. Definitely the best part of this course was hearing their anecdotes and advice derived from their own first-hand experience, all of them having worked in the US. Networking drinks afterwards proved to be a lot of fun. I met a bunch of cool, interesting screenwriters and will hopefully see them again... in L.A., right?

“SIXTH FORM TALK”

★★★★☆

written by on 16/09/2013

The talk was informative and stimulating, even though it was in the Friday afternoon "death slot". It was well constructed, and interactive in an appropriate way. Questions followed in quite a flood, which took us well beyond the usual finish time. It was obviously of interest to those with aspirations of working in the media, but also managed to hold the attention of the wider audience. A definite success.

“Interesting and Fulfilling”

★★★★★

written by Jacob92W on 15/09/2013

I attended a course on writing and selling scripts. Well worth the trip, the speaker was friendly and had a wealth of knowledge to share with us in many areas of writing; from formatting your work correctly and developing and structuring story and character, to the technicalities of the business and getting your name established. The Q&A was good too, the script writer they got was well experienced and had a lot of interesting and useful knowledge to share. The networking event was also useful as I met some like-minded individuals who were interesting to converse with. I even bought some scripts of films they had for sale. Would definitely recommend courses run by this company to others if this event was anything to go by.

“Great service, would highly recommend.”

★★★★★

written by C-Sladd on 12/09/2013

I submitted my script, and wasn't sure what to expect. I received my feedback within two weeks (quicker than the maximum 21 days) and was really happy with the feedback! I got into the talent connector program, which is very exciting... but more than that, the feedback was relevant, clear, and all of it had merit. I've now been able to gain greater perspective on my script and the characters, as well as tighten up the story arc (I knew it was slow in the middle, but didn't quite know how to address it). I will be resubmitting my script for more feedback in the very near future.

Hello,

I wanted to ask if anything came of being in the talent connector program?

Thanks

Hi Olly,

unfortunately, nothing has come of it so far: from what I can gather, they send out your details/information about your script to the talent connector partners (agents, studios etc) over a 3 month period in their monthly talent connector newsletter...

I was probably ill-advised to agree to have my project listed on the newsletter from December to February (over Christmas/holiday period etc)... that's no excuse for not hearing anything back, but probably wasn't the best time to list it?

Anyhow, I'd still recommend the process and the subsequent feedback has been great too.

Clare

“So impressed”

★★★★★

written by ReiGreen on 03/09/2013

I was expecting 2 pages report on my short film script, but I've received 4 pages instead. All the weaknesses have been pointed out and found the advice super helpful. I am so thankful for the report and it gave me new energy and will to improve it. I really liked the format of it. Starting with overview, notes and conclusion. I will definitely call for your help again when I feel lost. Thank you so much delivering the report earlier than I thought.

“Excellent, prompt, thorough service”

★★★★★

written by MandaScott on 02/09/2013

Two weeks ago, I sent in a 123 page feature film script for evaluation as part of the screen-reading service. Last night, I received a detailed 14 page report that went into every part of the script - highlighted the good bits so that I didn't feel crushed, but put a finger on the problems in detail - constructive, useful detail - and offered suggestions and guidance on how they could be resolved. Short of rewriting it themselves, they couldn't have done more and I will progress now into script editing with Industrial Scripts confident that I'm receiving professional, industry-level assistance.

“Film coverage script report”

★★★★★

written by Alexmorzine on 20/08/2013

The feedback I received was incredibly insightful. It really got to the heart of my script, more so than expected. The notes were as detailed as they were clear. The advice the perfect balance between critique and practical suggestions, without overstepping the mark. More pertinently, they were helpful. They offered something I couldn't have stumbled across myself reading blogs or books. And I think they will improve the script. The website descriptions maybe a case of under promise and over deliver - my report was early and more detailed than advertised. Very much recommended...

“Comprehensive treatment analysis”

★★★★☆

written by ivannoel on 12/08/2013

I was pleased to receive a detailed analysis of my treatment under the allotted time. It was also quite a bit longer than expected. It showed a good understanding of even the more complex story lines (save a couple of small written details that were missed). It explained clearly where weaknesses may lie, and offered a very useful logline. However, it went quite a lot further than that, offering solid NEW ideas, which I was not expecting. Some might have felt it maybe went 'too' far, since one of the main ideas was basically to change the genre of the film and one of its main themes to increase its potential. I first wondered about this (whether it was useful to me or not, having written the treatment on the basis of that one fundamental idea), but decided that if there was any time when one should do this it is at the treatment level. So it was daring from the reader, but undoubtedly also based on solid experience. Many thanks to the team,

“Effective Script Reading”

★★★★☆

written by on 05/08/2013

Good one-day introduction to script reading with a very useful set of notes, examples and reference materials. There was also a good amount of time spent on how to find work within the industry with some excellent tips and hints - especially useful were those online resources that most people (even in the industry) won't be aware of.

“Great introduction...”

★★★★★

written by on 05/08/2013

This is a great introduction to script reading. I signed up for the course to update my knowledge of the area, which meant that I was familiar with many of the principles. Even so it was a valuable review and I would recommend this course very highly to anyone starting out in this area. It was clear, practical but transferable across different contexts and scripts, well-thought through and delivered and very interesting. The course materials are extremely useful (and extensive). The sections which were new to me were the excellent guidance on current commercial considerations in script reading and on how to get work. The fee and the (in my case) 600 mile round trip to get there were well worthwhile.

“Informative, engaging and practical”

★★★★☆

written by HenryVR on 05/08/2013

A very useful course, clear and concise. Was particularly impressed by the small class sizes that made for a much more engaging experience. The tutor was always happy to take questions and was careful to back up his points with examples from various films. The supporting materials are extensive and thorough. My only criticism is that the course could have been more intense; I didn't feel as though I'd been made to work very hard over the course of the day. I think preparing two or three script reports before the day rather than one would have led to a better and more wide-ranging discussion about what makes a strong script.

“Very fair very good”

★★★★★

written by on 02/08/2013

The analysis of the script was very revealing. Thanks to the script reader's insight, I know that the next draft will be stronger and sharper and thus I am looking forward to getting stuck in to it. At over 7 pages, the script report's length was more than I had paid for. A considerable amount of thought had gone in to writing the report. The high review ratings that Industrial Scripts receives is fully justified.

“Screenwriting for Beginners”

★★★★★

written by tbuckley on 30/07/2013

I would strongly recommend this course to anyone thinking about a career in scriptwriting - but not sure where to start. The day is a practical mix of process-driven best practice and creative content, delivered with the benefit of his industry experience and brought to life with the clever use of illustrative clips and examples. It's also an interactive format with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion. Most importantly, I finished the day with tangible ideas and a clear view of how to take them forward.

Hello Juan, you can post an ad on castingcallpro website and other screen-writers networks/websites. Is your book already published?

Hi, You'll find guru stuffed with great writers doing work for very reasonable rates indeed. Also odesk. Stage 32 is like facebook for film bods, and there you'll be able to see a range of samples and characters and get a feel for what the writers are like as well as which themes they like to work with. Good luck.

You could try the Writers' Guild of Great Britain- go to their website - saying that you are looking for a screenwriter (Note the spelling). Good luck.
